Have you ever checked out the Awesome Tapes From Africa project?

Some great stuff on there. I know people like to knock Pitchfork, but I only heard about it because they reviewed this one:

The first track on that Aby Ngana Diop album is a ruddy BANGER!

Yeah - I've followed the blog for a while now and usually buy their releases. The Hailu Mergia album is also superb - and, what's more, on the back of the exposure he's got his band back together and started playing live again, so it's not impossible that he could make it to the UK next June.

The bloke DJ'd in Edinburgh last year, but I sady had other plans. The guys who do HMS Sweet Charity should definitely consider inviting him along to Worthy Farm.

Florence would make an excellent headliner. Both of her albums have sold more than a million copies in the UK, she has crossover appeal to different sections of the festival's demographic, she "gets" the festival in the sense that she's been going as a punter for years, she's headlined smaller fests and subbed some major ones already.

Furthermore, we're always talking about the ever-shrinking pool of viable festival headliners. It's a good thing when a festival like Glastonbury gives someone the push up to headliner status and widens that pool.

There's always criticism at the lack of female headliners as well so it'll be great to do something about that also (and not just a female headliner for the sake of it, but one who deserves it).

She may not be for everyone but what headliner is? I think it's a good choice.

All of the above is well and good if she could sing and had good songs.

Who would you pick, Russy? Assume we can't get AC/DC, Prince or Radiohead.

sigur ros - they sell out huge venues, have headlined festivals

pj harvey - sells out big venues, won mercury music prize recently

stone roses - to please the 35-45 year olds (they are the majority these days!)

something for everyone there...

The fact shit acts have headlined in the past is no reason for us to accept shit headliners in the future.

and florence is as shit as they come.

whether we 'accept' her as a headliner has absolutely nothing to do with it. people didn't 'accept' Metallica as a headliner, so far as to trying to get them kicked off the bill, and guess what? they played

more often than not (especially, seemingly, in the past few years) there's always gonna be something atop the lineup that people aren't happy with - the demographic has changed, and Florence meets that demographic

not big enough to headline

might as well be broken up

Same, I've never been able to catch one of his DJ sets, they should definitely get him on site somewhere!

if people are served crap they will accept crap. If people are served good stuff they will accept good stuff.

The pyramid field will be filled no matter who headlines. History proves that, even when it's someone truly shite like rod stewart and shakespeares sister.

All of the acts listed would pull the usual huge crowds.

My apologies. That is actually some genuinely good ticket selling.

I would LOVE to see Sigur Ros headline a major festival. Their show at the Academy up here was nothing short of tearjerking.

I agree saw them in Usher Hall in edinburgh and it was absolutely amazing, but the other stage would be better

This (bold) attitude is going to bite people in the butt soon. There's not going to be bloody anyone left! Sigur Ros are big enough in my mind to do it, but I'm also looking to the future and realising that the current "headliner pool" is drying up. The Eavises even said they're looking to put less focus onto the headliners and more to other areas of the festival.

Hmmm...I didn't dig that so much. In fact, I caught two gigs on the Kveikur tour and they're starting to feel like a band past the peak of their powers.

Getting an 'REM post Bill Berry' vibe from them.
