All the real cats turned up at The Park that night to catch the "secret headliner"...

:D I was there for a bit, me and some strangers came to the conclusion that My Bloody Valentine were definitely about to play. The guy took to the stage to say "there will be no band, the stage is finished, go away etc", me and aforementioned strangers looked at each other like "Ha, what a gas, trying to throw us off the scent". Ten minutes later, all the equipment cleared away, light turned off "... I'm starting to get the feeling there might not be a band".

WTF. So many things wrong with this I don't know where to begin.

I know.

T-fucking-Swizz?!

WTF is wrong with people.

I'd fucking love to hear someone say something like this at work...and my workplace is so fucking uber-tolerant its incredible.

'Swizz'...fuckin' jeez.

How on earth does music snobbery come into play when discussing the size of an act's crowd? The people who like them saw them. The people who don't like them didn't see them. Are you suggesting that if those people were less snobby about music they'd have gone to see an act they didn't want to see?

Wind your neck in. I'm not suggesting what people should or should not go and see. If you read the post I quoted.

He asked what the world is coming to, because more people had chosen to go and see an act less suited to his own taste.

I thought the rumours were atoms for peace.

Serves you right. You missed a good night at West holts.

I did make a pit stop at Bobby Womack for good 5 or so songs, had a great time, then headed up the hill. Would've felt a prize berk if the evening hadn't been salvaged by stumbling across Steve Mason doing a secret set in the Crow's Nest, him finishing on Dry The Rain, high above Glastonbury as fireworks shot out of the Pyramid, with about 70 people all shouting along was pretty much the highlight of the festival. From The Smashing Pumpkins up until the 4am singalong we had with the campsite neighbours to say goodbye, I think that Sunday remains the best finish to a festival I've ever had.

I'm happy for people to listen to and enjoy whatever music they please.

Just don't pollute my favourite festival with it please.

It's a lot of people's favourite festival that will have widely different tastes to yours.

Isn't the point of the festival to offer something for most tastes, to discover new music, and/or to try something a bit out your comfort zone?

No, the point of the festival for me was to get away from the real world for a weekend and mix with like minded people from a wide range of backgrounds.

now there is far too much shit from the real world inside the fence. Really shit music and the people who like that sort of really shit music for example.

The fact that Glastonbury has lots of choice was nothing to do with what Matt was saying when he listed a load of bands you could see at Glastonbury?

Well he said the beauty is that you can see all those acts in one weekend. My point was you could see a similar collection of acts at several festivals across the globe.

If he'd said "The beauty of Glastonbury is you can see such a huge, diverse collection of acts accross one weekend", then sure. Or if it was a list of performers that generally set Glastonbury apart from other festivals (ie. Throw in some Dalai Lama and cabaret acts). But a list of a few massive, mainstream artists?

I have been to GF once after years of wnating and trying to.

I went as I wanted to experience what many people told me about - and I did.

The smaller areas were fantastic, brilliant fun with bands I had never heard of and so much going on that at times music did not matter. It really was an escape, as Russy says, from the real world.

However, I also loved being at the Pyramid for Kasabian, a band I have loved from the first day I heard them and it was far more like the 'real world' there as there were TV camera and idiots galore. But I would not have changed it.

You should all know I really do not like TS's music but some do (rather like Kasabian really) and I know they will, if she plays, have a fecking brilliant time and I really hope they do.

I will be elsewhere doing something I do not even know about yet.

I am sure GF has changed over the years - someways for the better some for the worse but that is how stuff happens.

Anyway, sorry to bore you all but music, like politics and relgion, will always divide and yet music, unlike politics and religion (most of the time) , will always bring people together.

Brilliant post. This will be my first time at Glastonbury and despite not being able to stand Taylor Swift I wouldnt really have an issue with her headlining. I'm just hoping for one pyrmaid headliner that I'd go see but at the moment with the current rumours thats looking unlikely.

Russy, I agree with you to an extent but sadly those days are gone. We considered the Green Gathering this year for that reason.

I put up with what it has become because it has bonuses too- the Rolling Stones on the Pyramid? Plus we are cocooned in our recycling work and that tends to have a lot more old schoolers around.

Everything changes, as ahem, Mr Barlow might say.
