If Libertines get announced for Reading on Monday I Think we can rule them out of headlining Glasto.

Can't imagine melv wanting to share a headliner with 2 other UK festivals when they have a boat load of tickets to sell

It will be the usual FR marketing pish about them being an English exclusive

Didn't Neil say that it seemed likely? I actually reckon she'll sub Elton John. That's my prediction until there's more concrete evidence to suggest otherwise. But I reckon she's playing.

i'd be kind of the same.

my only reasoning against her subbing would be that her whole stage production for her previous tour (and likely this one) is a proper full-on headliner production. it's not a "go on for 75mins, stand around playing tracks, go off" thing.

that said, I still just can't picture her as Glastonbury headliner....

is there any chance she could headline the Other Stage opposite someone completely different (eg. Foos)?

while at other festivals she'd obviously be main stage headliner, I don't think she'd quite have the demographic/audience/crowd size at Glastonbury to necessitate putting them in the Pyramid field. the BBC would still be all over her if she was headlining the Other....

Nah she's Pyramid or nothing surely? I'd be amazed if she played and it wasn't on the Pyramid.

yes.

i don't see her as big enough amongst the Glastonbury demographic to be a Pyramid headliner.

i don't see her show/production as a sub slot at 7:30pm for 75mins thing.

i think as far as her potential audience at the festival goes, she'd attract a crowd as big as some past Other headliners, and her show would work better in the dark, headlining a stage.

i'm not doubting she's a big name in general, and at V or TITP she'd be main stage headliner, but at Glastonbury I'm sceptical (and i'm not saying that as someone who dislikes her, i think she has lots of great songs).

who're we talking about here? Taylor? because if we are she'd DEFINITELY be on the Pyramid. i'd be shocked if she's anything but a headliner (although i guess it's possible) but not being on the Pyramid just isn't a possibility at all

She's definitely a headliner if she is there, who would she sub? No one I can think of that's been mentioned anyway, if she's there she headlines I reckon

is she?

would she get more people than the Chemical Brothers for instance? i'd have my doubts.

Yes she would, without a doubt. I don't mean to be rude but you're very out of touch with what's popular if you think the Chemical Brothers are bigger than Taylor Swift.

Yup, if she's subbing she needs to be under someone bigger than her. I can't see Glasto pulling that many acts that are bigger than her right now.

it'd take an AC/DC or Prince sized act for her subbing to make sense, and with that said, The Rolling Stones, the biggest act Glastonbury will ever have headline, had Primal Scream subbing - a fairly average sized sub act. said it before a million times but Glastonbury doesn't do huge subs like TITP often does. Taylor's a headliner

Didn't The Stones ask for Primal Scream to sub personally?

they did, but it still doesn't change the fact that Glastonbury doesn't do 'big' subs, ever. look back through the previous Glastonbury subs and find one who at the time of subbing was as big as Taylor Swift is now. all debatable of course, and i'm sure people will argue the case for one or two, but there really hasn't been one

I never said they were bigger.

i'm pretty sure they would be more popular with the average Glastonbury-goer.

certain in fact.

Good point. Beyoncé would have been had she not been moved up the bill because they didn't get their original target.

Big mainstream artist, even on here she has a big following, you're dreaming. Your average Glastonbury goer isn't alt anymore, it's a very mainstream festival, acts that get a big crowd at T and V will get a similarly huge crowd at Glastonbury.

Same with Kasabian (if that was true)

i don't believe that one for a second. it just doesn't make sense at all for Kasabian to be okay with returning to Glastonbury as a sub after headlining every other UK festival (and already subbing Glastonbury twice). just doesn't add up

Good point. Beyoncé would have been had she not been moved up the bill because they didn't get their original target.

as for this one.. who knows? it didn't happen in the end so i guess we'll never know!

Yeah I thought exactly that as I posted. And they bigged themselves up saying they were ready to headline Glasto etc.

Ignore me.

Wouldn't a Pyramid headliner get a bigger crowd regardless of who is on the Other stage?

I think The Chems are of a few that could certainly challenge Swift at Glastonbury.

An example from last year is Jack White surely? He is massive in America, pretty huge over here, and isn't he headlining Coachella? He subbed for Metallica but pretty sure he wouldn't have subbed for Arcade Fire or Kasabian! The level of headliner definitely has a bearing on the level of sub...

I very much doubt more people were at Metallica than Jake Bugg.

But then that was a reverse of the way they usually book the stages (or at least the upper echelons of them) - the more mainstream act being on the Pyramid.

I don't even know why this is a discussion. It's like saying Dolly isn't a typical Glasto act so maybe she should have played Other while Elbow played the Pyramid. Or Beyonce should've done Other opposite Morrissey. It's insane.

Taylor Swift is nowhere near as big as people like to make her out to be, and especially not with grown ass people that go to music festivals.

It's kind of unfair just to prop her up against other pop singers but she has like four or five recognisable hits and most of those are bubblegum pop songs, whereas even your most out of touch with the mainstream Glastonbury goer will know the lion's share of a Beyoncé or Kylie setlist. She's a big new pop sensation over here after years of dominating America and I can absolutely see why people think she's a big deal and a headliner but to be so pigheaded about it is ludicrous.
