Taylor Swift is nowhere near as big as people like to make her out to be, and especially not with grown ass people that go to music festivals.

It's kind of unfair just to prop her up against other pop singers but she has like four or five recognisable hits and most of those are bubblegum pop songs, whereas even your most out of touch with the mainstream Glastonbury goer will know the lion's share of a Beyoncé or Kylie setlist. She's a big new pop sensation over here after years of dominating America and I can absolutely see why people think she's a big deal and a headliner but to be so pigheaded about it is ludicrous.

As has been said, the approach to her on here is incredibly childlike.

i'm pretty sure they would be more popular with the average Glastonbury-goer.

certain in fact.

This happens every year though, a 'controversial / they won't go down well with glastonbury' headliner gets booked, the papers and press talk about it for 4 months and because everyones seen the hype they get a huge crowd and pull it off.

Taylor Swift, Headlining Glastonbury will attract a lot of attention, even if a lot of those people only go to check out what the hype is about. She'l get a mammoth of a crowd!

An example from last year is Jack White surely? He is massive in America, pretty huge over here, and isn't he headlining Coachella? He subbed for Metallica but pretty sure he wouldn't have subbed for Arcade Fire or Kasabian! The level of headliner definitely has a bearing on the level of sub...

Except from Taylor Swift is massively bigger than Jack White here, it's not comparable.

She's had 3 platinum albums here and her newest album has won over a lot of fans, she's had two massive singles already and by the time of the festival probably more.

People know her, people like her, and she'l get a headline sized crowd because she is a headline act.

It's combative. There wasn't a peep out of anyone on here when Shakira or Gaga were announced/performed. Christ even Jessie J got a pass with the little kid singing on stage.

Maybe because Taylor is more likeable than the ones you've listed?

I used to like Gaga and Jessie J but they now come across to me that they will do anything to remain in the spotlight, it became all about the money for them very very quickly. Whereas I'm sure Taylor cares about the money, but she tries her hardest to come off as likeable, plus you don't see her doing some outrageous act for the sake of it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you've predicted her in a non-headline slot at one point for next year.

Even if I did, opinions change.

I also remember saying when the thread started "She's surely too big to play and not headline" or something along those words. Truth is that was probably back when 80% of this forum would have laughed at the concept because they are unfamiliar with her.

I do think dental is right in what he's just posted and totally agree, but at the same time I think you have to remember that she's going to get a hell of a lot of promotion over the next few months before she plays (if she plays) which will be in the bookers minds. Whilst she wont have a new album out, she hasn't actually toured 1989 over here yet so the run up to that will give her a boost. She's also playing at the BRITs and Radio 1 are going to playing her singles over and over before Big Weekend. The spotlight is going to be firmly on her for the next 5/6 months (if it isn't already) so her following is only going to grow.

Also, I'd like to think that if she did get announced for Glasto the average punter would at least give her a go on Spotify (oh wait :P) or whatever, rather than just point blank refusing to watch her.

Either I think where she'd play is basically impossible to call. Best to just sit back & wait. Then enjoy. #TeamSwift

Yeah, opinions change and you've had every single opinion it's possible to have on what the lineup will be, so don't be so dismissive of someone suggesting she might play and not headline, when shitloads of people have suggested the same.

this is one of the things I don't get about pop stars. Surely once you've had a hit as gargantuan as Price Tag or Poker Face - and the lead writing credit on it to boot - you don't need any more money. Shouldn't it be that your career is more money-orientated before your big hit rather than after it? Fuck sake.

why wouldn't she be?

Oh because she sings pop music? Death to all pop am I right? Thought most people grew out of that stage once they reached adulthood.

Switch to decaf Matt. Please. Again with the pithy ageist comment.

I love all kindsa music an' I really couldn't give a bolix who plays the fest.

Aye it's on the verge of becoming similar to when people who would otherwise not give a shit started to actively want Liverpool to not win the league last year because we fans got so stupidly overexcited about it, the day the poster appears without Taylor's name at the top of it is going to be absolute hell on earth :(

It's the fervour I can't get my head round. Proper frothing at the mouth madness.

tbf I think a lot of that is to wind up people who appear to be vehemently against her playing/headlining/being in the same field as them.

And vice-versa of course. Which is why we're in this mess.

Why can't we just love each other people?

When I mentioned the "victim mentality" I actually almost said "the Liverpool fans of the music world, it seems" :P

For the record, I wanted Liverpool to win the league last season until it was over (once it became apparent Arsenal were out of it). However, having seen how the fans reacted afterwards I'm bloody glad they didn't. The ones I know from uni are horrific.

Anyway, back on topic. Dunno what to say, but yeah, back on topic.
