The average Glastonbury goer?

There will be plenty of oiks at the pyramid enjoying TS if she played.. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to sit in the dairy field watching the grass grow, but to say 'average Glastonbury goer'

I'm not sure this forum represents the 'average Glastonbury goer' and she has plenty support on here.....

yup, if people on this forum, who are usually pretty selective over their music choices, are big fans of TS, then i imagine a large portion of your 'average Glastonbury goer' will eat it up - not that i like to associate myself with this kind of person (or throw stereotypes around), but i guess that the daisy chain headband wearing girls who probably listen to Radio One on their way to the festival will be ecstatic over it

I don't mind If Swift headlines so much but are we now walking down a road that leads to the likes of 1D?

not at all - although both pop acts, they're VERY different pop acts who appeal to very different crowds. Swift's crossover appeal is huge - 1D's hasn't quite escaped the hoards of screaming girls phase

Maybe the only reason Hyde Park hasn't sold out is because all of her fans are at Glastonbury that weekend? ;)

could equally be because she played five sold out nights at The O2 less than a year ago, if she'd sold out Hyde Park this year as well then that'd mean 160,000 people seeing her in London in little over a year, easily Glastonbury headliner material :ninja:

They kept getting put back on sale online, and I'm pretty sure you could buy them on the gate.

You could buy them on the gate - a friend of mine did just that.

BST does not sell out as it has a dire reputation - just see it's FB page from last summer.

I cannot think of any act that would sell it out that has not already played there.

Is the Taylor Swift crossover huge? Jesus wept.

Seeing as we are all basing our assumptions on anecdotal evidence, of the 40 or so people that I know who are going, not one of them is even a casual fan of her, and that age range is between 25-35 - this idea that Taylor Swift has massive crossover appeal is perplexing to me.

I didn't think it was that bad at BST myself - bit soulless, yeah, but the National were fantastic and I got into a nice chat about music with some guys while waiting for Neil Young (they were very pleased I still listen to albums as they were under the impression no young people did any more!)...I'd go again if someone I liked was playing, why not.

And there are definitely acts that could sell it out. Bowie would.

Caught the Libertines at BST last year. Event planning was probably the worst I've experienced. There was this middle section that required further payment to gain entry to which seperated the front and back of the crowds. Prior to them coming on, I made clear to friends that there would be crowd issues and low and behold there was a huge crush at the front. We were placed just behind the barrier of the middle section, within which there was acres of room for people to move in to. 5 or 6 songs or so in the penny dropped and they opened up the gates which eased the problems somewhat, but it was absolutely vile.

Despite this episode coupled with the atrocious sound, we still had a good time singing loudly and recapturing our youth. This was though the last time I will ever attend a gig at Hyde Park. I said that after Blur in 2012, but this time I mean it!

Sounds was fine for me, I've experienced worse at Glastonbury and way, way worse at Reading. I'm not really in a position to comment on the price as I got my ticket for free, but £50-£60 is kinda the going rate for these things nowadays is it not? And the crowd is gonna vary depending on the act (obviously). I dunno what the issue is personally.

What's so bad about BST? Sound? Crowd? Price?

The sound is dreadful - so very quiet and if you get a cross wind then forget hearing anything complete.

During Motorhead we could hold a conversation with no shouting needed.

The smaller stages are pointless, the biggest held 500 so the queue's were massive so forget seeign anything apart from the main stage. There was even a queue to register to join the queue for one of the stages - all they wanted were your personal details for advertising purposes.

People jumping barriers to get to the premium areas who had not paid for them. Stewards looking on laughing.

Curfew at 10.15.

Overpriced food

Overpriced drink

Overpriced merchandise

and on top of it no pass outs - once you were in that was it for the day.

I could go on but you get the picture.

Neil young headlined based on his musical output, not his "size".

People keep saying over and over that she is the biggest act in the world. Yet she cant sell this out which throws that in to question.

The only reason given for her to headline is that she is the biggest act in the world. If in fact she isnt as big as people seem to be claiming, then why is she headlining? It's not like anyone has made a strong case for her awful music.

I'm not coming down on either side of the TS fence(I just don't care) but an acts "size" has very little to do with it, 1D sell lots of records and sell out BIG gigs all over the world and that's no argument for having them at GF.

You could argue the same for Linkin Park. They're headliners at just about all that they play but at Glastonbury up against the Chemical Brothers they'd get a woeful crowd.

But there are a lot of people coming in and saying that they only know a couple of songs max. by her. It's alright saying "you must be really out of touch" or some shit but the point is they're supposed to be big enough that even out of touch people know their hits.

lots of "out of touch" people knew hardly anything of arcade fire, if anything at all?
