I'm not a fan, but my son likes them and it's his first Glastonbury so he would be happy.

I wonder if this would be a panic booking because they are getting nervous they aren't getting the headliners they really want.

I'm sure there will be something better elsewhere.

I do like OMD though. Fantastic picture.

Not the most inspiring booking but could have been a lot worse (Swift, Madonna, Rhianna, Foos, Florence).

Granted we might also get one or two off that list but as of yet it's not that bad. We're pretty decent headlining last time and didn't play a lot of their new album then so will have a lot to add to that set.

It's a bit early for the Eavii to be panicking and turning to their safety net no?

Was Mumford not a last resort? We didn't really hear about that until April time (I think, may have been slightly earlier), despite speculation.

This doesn't feel like a panic booking but maybe that's just me!

Mumford wasn't a last resort. They went global that year.

Mumfords weren't a last resort. they were ginormous at the time; they will've been booked for a long time. this feels like all other options have been exhausted and they were at risk of not having a big third headliner. Eavis definitely hinted at either Fleetwood or AC/DC being one of the headliners right after the last festival, so looks like Coldplay are the big marquee act replacing them

But if they have Foo Fighters do they really need another marquee act? Would have been much more interesting (and still wouldn't jeopardise future sales) to have people like Florence/Taylor Swift/Elton John alongside them, as much as I prefer Coldplay to the first two.

Taylor Swift (if she's the Sunday headliner) is a risky booking enough as it is, so sticking Florence alongside her would've raised a lot of eyebrows i feel. as for Elton, who knows? maybe he just wasn't available - as much as Coldplay are friends of the festival, i struggle to believe that Eavis would've gone to them if he hadn't totally run out of options. he can't have been thinking 'people are really hankering for another Coldplay headline slot'.

Do you not think booking Coldplay again will do exactly that? It won't turn out to be a safe booking if everyone criticises them for it.

do you honestly think joe public will think this is a bad booking? they'll eat this shit up. i bet some people want Coldplay as Glastonbury's yearly house band. it's a ridiculous booking if true but that's not gonna stop the crowd from being absolutely humungous (and undoubtedly the biggest of the weekend)

Yup I agree, I think Coldplay are the result of them really struggling to get other bands.
