all banana talk aside, whilst Young, Springsteen and Blur was a dream for some people (on this forum especially), i bet a lot of others looked at it and thought 'fucking hell, pensioner fest 2009'. 2009's headliners were for people who love music - 2015's are for people who listen to music

2009 was my first, I only saw Neil Young as a headliner that year. He was fantastic though.

Fingers crossed for you.

I also ended up at Coldplay in 2011, despite having no intention of seeing them, simply because I was on crutches that year and couldn't be bothered with slogging across the site after seeing elbow with the kids, they went down really well with the crowd and their visuals (the high def projections onto the pyramid) were the best I've seen at the festival.

I can't say I'd go out of my way to see them again, but I think they'd still pull a decent crowd and get a good response. It will be interesting to see who they are up against (last time round it was the chems, another glastonbury stalwart act).

Thanks very much.

Yeah it'd be a question of what was on elsewhere for me. In 2011 my mate went to see the Chems, it was a bit of a surprise to find out he didn't see the best light show at Worthy that night

I have never seen Coldplay live before ( first glasto was stones year ) have heard good things so I'm in the minority of actually looking forward to it

You might seem in the minority on here but come the night there'll be a suspiciously large number of people in front of the Pyramid who were 'just there because of their Mrs/group/mate/the act before and couldn't be bothered moving/were tired/not a fan but there was nothing on' but will all be bellowing along to Fix You by the end.

christ, and to think we were all bemoaning that booking Muse for this year would've been too soon

you can't deny that, like them or not, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Taylor Swift looks damn impressive. three ginormous worldwide acts. it's just disappointing that out of the huge net of acts, they choose one that people are already sick of seeing atop the lineup

yep, i'd take that!

Spot on. 2011s set of headliners got a fair amount of stick on here but out in the real world was a phenomenally big set of names. Foos/Coldplay/Swift, personal preference aside, is a big deal and I'll wager bigger than any other festival manages

hell, if nothing else catches my eye i may well be there (although i'd be disappointed if nothing else catches my eye on the many stages)

i thought 2009 was a pensioner fest all over the bill, never mind just the headliners - non of which i watched then or would watch now.

chuck in Quo, Tom Jones, Rolf, Spinal Tap..

not much at all to my tastes thast year on the big stage. maybe i don't love music enough, but if that means i never end up in a field with Bruce Springsteen, i'll take it!

Why is there always such a conspiracy that 'unsuitable' or 'shit' headliners are only booked because someone pulled out or they couldn't get go they really wanted? Do people really still need to make excuses to convince themsleves that Glasto's standards aren't slipping, they only booked who they did because they had no other choice?

Objectively speaking Mumford were a perfectly decent headliner choice, given that they headlined T and played Hyde Park in the same year and are headlining R&L this year. They're a UK festival headline band. Kasabian had headlined every other major festival in the UK. They're a UK festival headline band. Coldplay may be dull as shit but as has been pointed out they've released two records since last headlining and are still very popular with the media partners (or whatever the term is) and their audience. It's highly likely that Coldplay are a first-choice, not a fallback option.

Agreed. I suspect if we were ever to hear the conversations that actually take place in GFL HQ about headliners it'd be very different to what we discuss here. I doubt the Coldplay conversation went any further than 'Hey Michael, Chris is on the phone, says they want to play....no they're not arguing over the money....right, cheers Chris, that's one sorted"

IMO, 2014's headliners were the smallest set of Glastonbury headliners for an age. Irregardless of personal taste, I think both Foo Fighters and Coldplay are more impressive and apt bands for Glastonbury than last years, and back inline with pre-2014 headliners.

All subjective and personal taste but last year I was really looking forward to Metallica, the year before that I was really looking forward to the Stones.

Wasn't there in 2011, but the headliners that year would have really disappointed me if I had had tickets. Having said that I'm taking solace from the fact Chemical Brothers and QoTSA headlined the other stages that year which would have been awesome.

Glastonbury normally has something for everyone so hopefully the other stage and John Peel bookers pull something out the hat that excites me.

Kylie more interesting than Coldplay. Just my two cents.

Alls good man. Like you, another kid. Hope you're getting some decent kip.

Excellent, Congrats. He's just started sleeping through last couple of weeks. Don't realise how much you miss sleep until you can't have any.

Very much disagree with this

The Metallica thing was massive! A huge, legendary band, the scale and history of which is hard to compete with................irrespective of taste.

as much as i loved Metallica being there, them headlining seemed very much a novelty rather than 'wow we got Metallica!'. it was a lot more down to the fact that they wouldn't usually headline Glastonbury than being an impressive booking (because it wasn't - they headline a festival here every year). people aren't ever gonna look back and think 'wow can't believe they bagged Metallica that year' like they will with the Stones, U2, Stevie Wonder etc

There's usually a decision to be made which is testament to what GFL put together. Catching up with what's being discussed on here I see Hot Chip looking a good shout. Them headlining West Holts would trump almost anything.
