as much as i loved Metallica being there, them headlining seemed very much a novelty rather than 'wow we got Metallica!'. it was a lot more down to the fact that they wouldn't usually headline Glastonbury than being an impressive booking (because it wasn't - they headline a festival here every year). people aren't ever gonna look back and think 'wow can't believe they bagged Metallica that year' like they will with the Stones, U2, Stevie Wonder etc

It really depends who's telling the story I would imagine, there will be a lot of people inclined to look back and think wow I can't believe we got Metallica, mostly because it was never seemed as a band who would headline glastonbury, it'll definitely be a headliner that's remembered many years down the line I feel

4 times but................4 fucking times! Fuck off Martin.............Can we change the record...........Id prefer if it was the likes of Kanye or Rihanna..............2 fuckers I utterly despise, but at least they'd be different/new

if Coldplay do headline this year (and inevitably don't break up afterwards) i really do hope they fuck off for a long long time (like Chris Martin said they would after their 2011 performance)

I agree, but Coldplay and The Foo Fighters headline festivals all the time so the 3rd headliner needs to be someone to write home about. (Swift is doing 2 others this year already)

Its not "wow we got Metallica".......................Its "wow I cant believe we got Metallica at Glastonbury! Fair balls to ya ME. Never thought we would see the day"...............It was (as I say) massive! And goes down as a very big deal for the fest

yeah i realised the irony in what i was saying after i posted. i guess there just aren't that many acts who could be considered a rarity left - Prince, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, all acts who (we think) the festival has tried and failed to get in the past two years. they've used up everybody - it's the penance we have to pay for having both Young and Springsteen in the same year!

The Eagles, Pearl Jam, Eminem, Bob Dylan, Green Day, Guns N Roses, Dire Straits will just never be booked to headline i don't think.

Depeche Mode... as much as they're constantly rumoured. i just don't see it ever happening

The Stone Roses will perhaps be booked if/when they release a new album i guess...

The Police would need to reform first - Sting wouldn't headline alone

Madonna and Elton must be contenders - although considering Elton now seems to be doing every festival ever, it wouldn't be too special

Radiohead MUST be in the running for next year. if they aren't booked next year off the back of a new album then it's a travesty

all banana talk aside, whilst Young, Springsteen and Blur was a dream for some people (on this forum especially), i bet a lot of others looked at it and thought 'fucking hell, pensioner fest 2009'. 2009's headliners were for people who love music - 2015's are for people who listen to music

Worst comment I've seen on here.

Firstly, we haven't even got the headliners for 2015 yet so you're just speculating there. Could be more surprises to come.

Secondly, regardless of who the headliners are it's personal opinion weather people love that music. What a ridiculous statement to make that it would be for people who like 'listening to music'.

aren't you the person who's constantly kicking off over Taylor Swift being a possibility?

What if you like Young, Springsteen, Blur and Coldplay?

And Metallica and The Stones and U2 and Gorillaz and Hobo Jones.

Am I listening to or loving music?

Or am I just very confused?

it was more a general statement on Foos, Coldplay and Taylor Swift all being very radio friendly, current and everywhere. even people who have no real interest in music will know a fair few of their songs, unlike Young, Springsteen and Blur, who, if you're a fan of (especially a younger fan), you will've had to go out of your way to listen to and become a fan of

And many would have said that about the likes of Jay Z, Kylie and Metallica etc etc..................

They'd never book Guns N Roses because they're too unreliable

I don't think Green Day or Eminem would be any great achievement to book and I don't think Dire Straits would headline

Agree with most on that list.

Why not The Eagles or Pearl Jam though?

I think both would go down well with a lot of people and certainly wouldn't be a bland booking like most people agree that coldplay/foo's is.

The Eagles were heavily rumoured for last year and were discussed to death - personally (and i think a lot of people will agree) that they're just not a right fit for Glastonbury. kind of the same for Pearl Jam - the Glastonbury crowd would be largely uninterested (plus The Eagles fees would probably be far too big for Glastonbury, and i doubt Eavis would extend said fees like he did with the Stones)
