I couldn't name five, and I know a fuckload about a lot of other music (yes Russy, I like Kasabian).

If you're basing your assessement of other people's musical knowledge on what you or your friends know then you're being very narrow-minded. I don't mean this to sound arsey, but why would you expect everyone's musical upbringing or experiences to be the same as yours?

I don't base it on that. I am also into techno and trance. I highly doubt most people have heard of the work of Scott Bond, Len Faki, Gaiser or others.

I think it was more the case that I saw him in the same light as the beatles. I.e. Everyone knows them. I was wrong.

Ah OK, I guess that makes sense.

I'm in the same position with The Beatles in that I don't know that many of their songs off the top of my head. But then that's because I think they're mostly shit and have actively avoided listening to them :P

I don't think there's a single band out there that everyone will know lots of songs from.

Oh Stevie has to be my favourite headliner.

A great end to what I consider my favourite Glastonbury since I've attended.

Sadly can't see it ever being beaten.

You moaned like hell when he was announced though! Shows how you can be converted by a performance.

Yeah I've always been taught that Stevie Wonder was shit so never bothered to look out for him.

I'm also the same as Matt with The Beatles.

Heck, when I got the DVD of Led Zeppelin's O2 gig the other year my dad said they don't have any hits, and he's a music fan (although he listens to no rock music, more classical). Actually he was married to a Led Zeppelin fan for most of his life. Weird.

Im in the same position as you

Go see something else, there's plenty on. You can see most of shit on the Pyramid stage at every other major festival, if you waste time on that and miss the other stuff you'll regret it more than vice versa.

i'm genuinely shocked by some of the opinions of the beatles and stevie in this thread tbh. I can accept a 'not my bag' type of comment, but shit or 'dont knwo any of his songs' is a bit nuts!

kids these days eh?

I think to a certain extent it's a good thing. There's far too much nostalgia in music at the moment, numerous reissues and reunions all the time. Youngsters getting excited about an upcoming band is far more important than them knowing the Beatles discography back to front.

Absolutely. I almost find it disappointing when I see a teenager with a Nirvana t-shirt, I hope to god my kids don't like the same stuff that I do. Music should be the greatest source of teenage rebeliion.
