It was tongue-in-cheek, I know full well that it isn't the pinnacle of every musician's career and that there are many reasons why people might not want to play it. Hell, there are even bands that have played the festival that claim other festivals are their favourite! Even R&L!

Why Depeche Mode or any band would 'deserve' to play Glasto is also beyond me; is a Glasto spot something that has the be 'earned' and 'achieved'? The only criteria for 'deserving' to play is whether they're popular, cheap and willing enough. It appears that Depeche Mode fail on at least one of those three.

Probably fail on all 3 counts these days in the UK

    1008

has anyone considered that Radiohead don't want to do it, and that's the reason?

Well Michael said he was "working on Radiohead" in 2008 and that's why they had to go to Jay-Z. So yeah, that definitely seems to be part of it. Back then, it was apparently partly down to concerns over being the house band. Not an issue now, surely? Maybe they had other reasons to not want to do it.

If a new band had put out In Rainbows and King of Limbs and become headliner-popular off the back of them would people be gagging for them to play? Of course they would. So to say the fact the band that did make those albums happened to also play ages ago with none of those songs in the set should stop them being booked is ridiculous.

That's quite a big if.

True. I suppose what I'm getting at is, we shouldn't be deprived of hearing the newer Radiohead stuff on the Pyramid just because the band played ages before those albums were released. That's probably a better way of putting it.

I just want them to tour anywhere I can see them! Can't believe I haven't managed it yet.

Depeche Mode would be a very popular headliner if announced before the tickets went on sale. If they were announced after the field would not be much more than half full. No way. A set by them on West Holts under those circumstances however, would be superb.

Maybe thats the problem. They have gone round the world headlining all the major festivals yet they could only headline the smaller stages at Glastonbury.

The world has gone mad. Coldplay can headline 4 times and get mammoth crowds but DM could only half fill the field. Nearly as bad as Ed Sheeran filling Wembley.

I don't think Depeche Mode would have it any other way. They've always produced more challenging music than bands like Coldplay. Even in the eighties and early nineties, when they had fairly regular chart success, they were on the 'darker' fringes of the mainstream.

Personally, I'd love for them to headline the Other stage, as a contrast to a 'poppy' Pyramid act.

A new band wouldn't have became 'headliner popular' off the back off them 2 albums though. Especially TKOL.

They are far too big for the other stage.

AC/DC 6-1 2nd favourites, wow wildly optimistic

Those that are putting money on them clearly dont know that Brian Johnson refuses to do consecutive nights and that AC/DC fees are way more than Eavis could/would pay

As for Coldplay what a dull safe choice, nothing against them but like Ed Sheeran and Mumford and Sons etc they are not inspiring choice
