It will take time for the boom to cover the whole country, but, we have raised the tax threshold to 11k which means the poorest people and lowest earners are paying no tax at all, we have put up the minimum wage above inflation, so even the poorest are a lot better off than they were 5 years ago, the last government even scrapped the 10p rate for the poor making even the poorest pay 23p in tax, we are the party of the poor as well as the rich

'Party of the poor'

What fucking insulting bollocks is this.

Take this horseshit somewhere else

I think that depends on the kind of acts being booked, I think every festival will be dominated by one genre esp when thats the genre thats helped give the festival its name.......but you cant say its as dominant as it is at other places just for the pure amount of stages glastonbury has.....thats one thing that will always attract people......I mean im a fan of heavy music... being down the front for metallica at the pyramid for me last year was as good as it gets for me....but that doesnt mean I was bored the rest of the time and that doesnt mean I wont listen to all sorts of music other then the genre I favourite.....if I was that closed minded glasto wouldnt be for me....because it truley offers all types.

So why the tantrum about Kanye?

Was this the interview where Emily is supposed to have said that the headliners weren't amongst those heavily rumoured? I honestly don't remember but if so then she doesn't say anything of the sort, merely that they might be amongst the people listed as contenders by William Hill. My life is a lie.

The Stone Roses are not a rock band, certainly not in any way that would rule them out because Foo Fighters are already seen as the rock act.

Not sure why such an idea was put forward

It was brought up because of a comment Emily ACTUALLY said - ergo it is reasonably reliable. What is or is not rock or not is obviously highly subjective to everyone - you, me, them, her. For instance, I would consider them an indie band (a la Penguin). But to the layman or in casual conversation (or indeed as they are on wikipedia) they will likely be refered to as rock. Just an obversation.

but anyway, I disagree with Kanye/ Taylor Swift being a watershed moment. Things will continue as they ever did. Russy/Wooders, I think you're reading too much into it.

maybe the festival needs to start booking a lot more of those acts though, to stop the place being dominated by old farts like us? I'm not convinceed continuing as they ever did is the right strategy to secure the future of the festival.

There's always been a balance, Level 42 played for fucks sake. And for my money, it's been dominated by heritage acts a bit too much recently, really. The median age of festival goers is what, 30, maybe 35? of course they've got more money, more disposable income, and going into the future, even more so, but I feel desperately the festival needs to be relevant, needs to be contemporary. I dunno, I think in all honesty, the truth is somewhere between us, it'll muddle on, getting some things right, some things wrong and needs to book a variety of acts. I'll be absolutely honest, i find the booking of Lionel Ritchie far more offensive musically than Kanye or Taylor Swift.

And more than anything else, this Kanye furore has done more to convince me that the demogrpahic going to Glastonbury and moaning about him need cleaning out, need flushing away.

It's been phenomenally depressing to see the narrow minded shite that some people are spouting. Really fucking grim. The idea that the fucking tool who started the petition speaks for a sizeable percentage of the crowd is unutterably dispiriting

Really wish the people from Buzzfeed and NME had challenged him more on Kanye's Brits performance being 'threatening'.

I remember reading something that an absurdly high % of white people are scared of black people. Well over 50% (cant remember the sample size, but it was significant).

My problem with swift is that if they book her to appeal to the yoof, it just shows how out of touch they are. Are that many 18-25 year olds really into taylor sodding swift?? There much be better bands out there to appeal to the younger generation! I'd be insulted if I was that age.

And you are spot on about lionel bloody ritchie!! Horrific stuff.

i think you'll find the majority of the Taylor Swift thread is full of people that age campaigning for her to play :P and then Martin...

also, i've been mentioning to a fair few people that she's possibly lined up to headline/play and they've all been well up for it
