Did the massive tour and huge shows at Heaton Park pass you by? :|

They're Pyramid headliners if they ever played, the probability is so astronomically low of them playing anything but Pyramid that even roses4baggies would think twice before photoshopping £100 on it.

Lol :-)

I'm not a fan at all and can see that they'd appeal hugely to their fan base but I keep coming back to the point that if this was happening then we'd have heard stronger rumours by now.

the Stone Roses not headlining the Pyramid Stage is one of the stupidest things in a day full of stupidity.

they're headliners no matter what.

them on the Other Stage while Taylor Swift debuts her new show for her poppiest album yet is even dafter. she'd be on the Other to a healthy 40k-50k audience if anything.

this isn't V festival, the Stone Roses would be a far, far bigger draw.

my point being. if they are going to headline one of americas biggest festivals, like you said where they aren't very well known. why oh why would they be anything lower then a headliner in their own country? this post baffles the hell out of me

Very simplistic way of looking at things. Quite a few British acts are more popular in America than over here.

(tho I do agree with the general point, they're clearly Pyramid headliners)

Didn't they have to play second down in the second week of Coachella instead of headline because nobody knew who they were?

i think that was always the plan (switching with Blur) but it didn't make it seem any less depressing. goddamn Americans (although to be fair, what the hell were the Coachella bookers thinking?)

yeah, I'm with you on that sadly... there were a few things like the new Merch, and a few others saying they were 'in the know' but not much else.

They would be a huge headliner for the older glastonbury demographic who lived through '88-94'. Anyone 25 or under would find them very underwhelming I'd argue (though I'm sure they'd be exceptions)

Reunion nostalgia tours selling out to a certain demographic are a whole different kettle of fish to headlining glastonbury.

Glastonburys not just for people under 25.

And there were loads of kids at the Heaton Park show I went to.

Money. Coachella misjudged it (as demonstrated by the appalling attendance) but glastonbury wouldn't pay anything near Coachella sums and the Roses didn't reform for peace and love, it was cold hard cash.

if the merch had some kind of new logo or design on it or something then maybe it'd seem more relevant to the whole thing, but it's ALL covered in their self-titled album artwork / tracklists etc. don't see how that could be seen as a link to a new album / tour

we had pretty much no rumours of Kanye West until he was announced.

in fact, Neil had stronger info earlier that day that he wasn't playing, than info that he was.

I like to think they thought they'd booked the Rolling Stones, at least that's what I heard at the time, definitely not true but still funny.

I'm not trying to troll (honestly!!) but has anyone ever headlined the pyramid stage 20 odd years after their last album and only have ever released 2 albums (albeit with a rumoured unheard 3rd maybe on the way)?

somebody on the radio mentioned he was headlining. someone from a band (Peace?) said they'd heard he was headlining. Neil had earlier said that he had whispers that Kanye was in line to headline (although went back on it the day he was announced weirdly). we've had fuck all on the Roses apart from these people on the forum

Edit: what FF said. Also, Big Sean's random UK gigs at the end of June made it look pretty probable. All of that is far more reliable than photoshopped/not-photoshopped betting slips and someone's brother's mate being a guitar technician. Edited by Zac Quinn

no, someone on the radio said he was a rumour.

it was Palma Violets, and a band as inconsequential as them wouldn't know anything about who'd headlining and would just be repeating something they randomly heard.

and i said "pretty much no", not none.

those "rumours" were of fuck all value.

Big Sean's gigs were the only solid pointers that Kanye was playing, and only appeared a few days before the confirmation.

sorry keithy don't agree with you at all there. The roses did the rounds on their come back tour. Me bringing up coachella was a bad example. They are huge and always will be. Saying Swift will headline the pyramid whilst the roses would top the bill on the other stage is laughable.

Continuing to post here is laughable you gobshite.

Sleep well btw. Look forward to meeting you.

i thought the guy on the radio said they'd heard he was headlining? that's why we all got in such a frenzy over it. even if it was only those few little bits, it's still a hell of a lot more than we've had over the Roses (who, as a British act, you think somebody somewhere would've heard something about). maybe they\ve just done a really good job at keeping it quiet this year (as they have with a lot of it) but i just can't help but feel something would've come out and we would've analysed the shit out of it some time ago
