Personally, I blame the BBC and their blanket coverage of the top 4 stages (and probably the reason why I failed to get a ticket since 2005 until this year) for the lack of love and loss of the "Glastonbury spirit".

If you haven't been for 10 years how do you know. Personally I don't think it has changed that much since then as the difficulty getting tickets in 2005 proved.

Since the fence went up is another matter mind.

As far as the Sunday headline is concerned, does anyone think that locals views are taken into account any more? If so, does that not rule out The Stone Roses and make it more likely that a more current act would perform?

Personally, I feel that most locals are now firmly behind the festival and as such a 'mainstream' headliner is less likely.

Well, 2007, 2008 and 2009 it was not hard to get hold of a ticket, so I don't think you can blame the BBC coverage for that.

2007, 2009, really? The only year I remember (2005+) there not being aggro with tickets was 2008. It is harder now, but you have to allow for upgrades in See's systems etc. .

Not always; kasabian and blur don't really quality as mainstream pop right?

Mainstream point is pertinent though, would be surprised if its someone with a more out-there sound (radiohead for example)

Still all the acts being suggested a fairly mainstream and have a lot of hits, so this doesn't help narrow things down much

Why? Do the locals not like them?

That's not what I said is it. I'm sure lots of 'locals' like them (me included) but hasn't the Sunday headliner been more 'safe', at least in the last few years. Maybe that's changed now that most 'locals' are either behind the festival or at least tolerate it.

And if it hasn't...? If we accept that the main contenders are Prince/Take That/Swift/Stone Roses/Blur, only one of those has had a hit this decade...only two of them have had hits this Millenium... Edited by Zac Quinn

I don't think anyone really knows who the main contenders are but out of your list, I think at least three of them would be considered 'safe'.

True. In fact I dare say the most current act out of that lot would be the one most pushing the boundaries of 'safe', which kind of evidences how difficult a term it is to define. Edited by Zac Quinn
