So now we are looking at Swift, Madge, Stone Roses? I'll take Madge then but Foos, Kanye, Madonna far too strong I think.

I would be going sub bump up for Sunday. So an Ed Sheeran type booking.

It can't be Ed Sheeran thankfully

Remember Rihanna and Katy Perry are ones actually listed as rumours on the rumours page

You've kind of gone against your own argument there. She's notoriously unpredictable, so the fact that Glastonbury is in 3 months time really means nothing because for all anybody knows she could have been rehearsing for the last 6 months in preparation.

As it stands I'd agree that she's highly unlikely. But if she ever does do it, I imagine it will come as a massive surprise without any prior indication.

True, true. I was really building the case that she could play one day, but it's really the kind of thing you build up to. I just don't think headlining one of the biggest festivals in the world without having ever done a conventional tour makes any sense at all, even for for her. Although all the things I listed were unpredictable, they all made sense in hindsight, but suddenly headlining Glastonbury really doesn't

I suppose I was trying to talk myself into the idea that she would do it, despite really not believing it.

Back to my original question, what makes Kate Bush a potential headliner??? Its not a dig at her its a genuine question.

I'd say the fact that all of her studio albums have made the top 10. That she's critically acclaimed, highly influential, was the first female solo artist to have a self written song go to the top of the charts & she is still relevant after a 30+ year career, gives her a pretty good argument to be a headliner.

Add to that an overwhelming demand for tickets/tour dates & I'd say it's pretty much unquestionable.

Far too strong?

Must be some sort of alternate universe if that's considered strong.

It's woeful

I was just about to reply, but I think that sums it up. She's a very highly acclaimed artist and would probably still be at headliner status if she'd played much over the years, but with the pent-up demand factor she's not only at headliner status, she would be far and away the biggest headliner out of the three if she played. But she won't*

*If she does play I'm going to be there, even if I have to jump the fence.

it may not be to your liking but it'd be a ridiculously strong set of headliners. one of the biggest current rock bands, one of the biggest hip hop acts, and one of the biggest pop acts. would be the strongest trio they've had imo

Commercially strong yes, but that's not the standpoint I'm coming from.

The only one to have produced something critically acclaimed for yonks is Kanye West and he is by far the strongest of the three.

A formulaic dad rock band who have headlined everywhere else already and a laughing stock has-been do not fall into the bracket of strong headliners in my book.

2009's headliners were infinitely stronger

definitly, id see madonna more in kind of a legends sunday afternoon type slot.....she certainly doesnt have the fanbase anymore to headline let alone a festival like glastonbury. itd be an extremly poor choice

Hahah! Oh the ignorance of some people.

She's the best selling living artist on the planet & she's also up there with the biggest bands in terms of tour revenue. If she ain't big enough, I don't know who is.

Granted she isn't at the peak of her career commercially or critically, but then neither were the Stones, Neil Young, Springsteen, Stevie Wonder etc etc... & it never stopped them.

constructive reply? do tell me then why you think a pop act who hasnt released anything decent in a long long time and is more famous these days for having a string of toyboy lovers then her actual music is a good choice to headline one of the largest music festivals in the world? she is a legend no denying that....but in modern times shes not a headliner.....hence legends slot.

Stevie Wonder

Rolling Stones

Neil Young

etc

etc

etc

Not that I'm comparing her output to them, but the thought of her not being headline material because her best days are behind her is quite frankly, ludicrous.

Headliner or nothing.

Gah.... Shankly *shakes fist*

Yeah she's definitely big enough.

But that to me wouldn't make it a strong booking.

I genuinely think it would be a dreadful move

not being funny, thats like putting the stones in the legend slot... nothing decent in yonks etc

this is coming from the same person who was championing Metallica last year - an act who haven't had a noteworthy album in fourteen years now. she has a huge back catalogue of hits. if she played a greatest hits-esque set it'd be one of the best the Pyramid had seen (song-wise - the performance may be a shambles, but that;'s a risk for any booking)

That's the thing though... would she do that type of set?

shes big enough yes...if judging from the past heights of her career(hands up who can name a single madonna song post oh...2004?)...but would she generate enough interest from the people who actually go to Glastonbury? if we were talking something like v festival or a radio one big weekender then id be more inclined to believe the rumors

You seem to have missed the bit where Glastonbury started booking pop acts.

Pretty sure there's no rumours other than us chucking names left right and centre to keep ourselves occupied till lineup day.

For the record I reckon she wouldn't do it. On the off chance she did, she'd be too precious to play a greatest hits set meaning it would stink the field out.

metallica still record every couple of years and tour constantly all over the world, they keep themselves relevant.....same cant be said of Madge. im not getting into this anyway madonna is not someone id waste my time arguing over....she wont be at glasto if nothing else simply for the fact they wouldnt book 2 poppy completely mainstream headliners in a row.....this isnt v fest...look at last year, they took a risk for one night with metallica but the other 2 headliners were pretty standard fare for glasto.....the risk this year is kanye....so guess again for sunday headliner id say. and thats enough on madge from me :P

it could, but where you're wrong is they're both largely irrelevant. best days for both are fucking years ago.
