it could, but where you're wrong is they're both largely irrelevant. best days for both are fucking years ago.

Neil Young/Bruce/Stones/Stevie etc .. Are they all current or did they headline on their legendary status? Why were Metallica and why would Madonna be any different from those?

metallica still record every couple of years and tour constantly all over the world, they keep themselves relevant.....same cant be said of Madge.

In the last ten years Metallica have released one album. Madonna has released 4. She has also done several large tours, two of which rank among the highest grossing tours of all time.

Do you actually think before you type? Or do you just say whatever bollocks comes into your head in order to try & validate your point?

i haven't claimed that anybody should or shouldn't headline. i haven't claimed that they, Metallica or Madonna, would be different. quite the contrary.

still can't see it being the stone roses. there is nothing coming out of them suggesting it will be them. saying that though they are available and that seems to be the logic with most peoples guesses.

aye the only reason people are now talking about them is because of a couple of people coming on here and saying they were being announced on Friday - which we now know is bollocks. it may well be them but with zero announced there's nothing really pointing to it being them

cant see why the roses would rehearse etc for a one off glasto show, they would surely sell out other places if they did their own gigs as well?

I would see Glastonbury as a big one off show to let everyone know they're still there and maybe even one new song to show there's new material on the way. Announce tour the next day and do all the festivals again the next summer.

Neil Young, Bruce, The Stones and Metallica all had numerous top 20 albums and singles in the preceding decade or so before they played the festival.

Bruce was touring a UK number 1 album at the time he played. And 4 of his previous 5 albums were number 1.

Metallicas last album was number 1.

The Stones last album was number 1 and they were touring a top 10 greatest hits.

They're as "relevant" as anyone else.

Madonna has had 9 UK number 1 albums. Current album is number 2 and the last 6 albums have got to number 1.

She would pack that Pyramid field.

nah, if they were to do Glastonbury i'd fully expect a new album to be released at the time. i can';t see Glastonbury booking them with nothing new to show for it, essentially doing the same shows they did at other festivals a couple of years back

But not at Glastonbury so I don't see the problem.

They played small festivals such as YNot this summer and didn't even headline so I can't imagine they would headline the Pyramid stage

Yeah, I was taking the piss. Didn't expect it to be taken serious to be honest. Its fucking Razorlight.

That pic of them is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've seen.

all of these acts only have current success because of their past success - they've all reached the point where they could release absolute garbage and they'd still hit number 1. wouldn't really say that counts as being relevant

Them reforming seemed to be simply for money and no other reason. They got their pay day last year.

There has long been talk of them recording new material .. So if they announced that there was a new album out later this year and announced as headliners at the biggest festival in the world .. No better way to generate publicly for a money spinning tour!

It'd still be fair to note that their artistic glory days were behind them, though.

Ok then, in the last ten years Madonna has had 3 UK number 1 studio albums, a number 2 studio album & a number 1 greatest hits album. Also several top 40 'hits' including a few number 1's.

In that respect, she's more 'relevant' than the Stones. She's also sold more records than them.

they have been working on a new album since they reformed and are supposedly constantly tweaking it rather than just sitting on it as some seem to think. The suggestion seems to be that all being well they will release the new album at the end of the year and go back on tour. they may very well do the festival season next year but i can't see it being this year. Ian brown wouldnt be able to keep it quiet for this long

Even if you heard it from the horses mouth, you still would not bet on that.

I've worked in betting for years and I can assure you no company would accept that kind of bet on a Glastonbury headliner unless it was miles odds on
