as i've said many a time, if they are our last headliner, i'd fully expect the new album to be dropped sometime before the festival. i can't see them headlining with nothing new, essentially peddling the same setlist they did with all other festivals three years ago. Glastonbury hasn't played second fiddle to other festivals in the past and i don't see them doing it now for the Roses

That actually makes a better point than why waffle. New material changes the picture completely.

stone roses wouldnt be my first choice, i'd rather it be an act i've never seen / not known for festivals which in turn makes the gig an experience in itself..like the rolling stones playing....thats why i'd prefer it to be someone like madonna / prince / fleetwood mac

however i wouldnt be too unhappy if the roses played, a chance for them to redeem themselves after the missed glastonbury, i think they will be well up for it.

saw them at the comeback gigs at heaton park, and they were fantastic.

just wish they'd play tightrope...probably my favourite roses tune (tough to call it against sally cinnamon though:-)

All have more than 1 and a half albums. Unless we're seriously going to argue the Roses second album is front to back a quality album.

My point is that no matter how iconic or loved the Roses are, are we seriously arguing that a band with 1 iconic album and 1 underwhelming follow up, who've not released any new material for over 20 years are now going to headline the pyramid stage?

If they play at all, they headline.

Their comeback tour sold faster than almost any tour in history.

It's common sense.

New material has nothing to do with it

A couple of new tracks would be a nice to have but they could still headline the Pyramid on old material and it would go down a storm.

It'd be nice to think theyve had a sufficient enough payday off the tours that they would close the festival for all non fiscal reasons. I saw them in '12 and '13 so I'm not 'that' fussed, but will take them over Madonna, Swift, etc all day long!

If, by some miracle, the Smiths kissed and made up, would they not headline because they had no new material to play?

My argument isn't just 'new material'. If you read my post, it's a range of points, one being they only have 2 albums. Smith's have had 4 albums, all top 2. Roses didn't achieve that.

Argue my points if you like, just argue them all. Not pick and choose one's to make a point.

ME has already said he'd love to have them headline a couple of years ago when no new stuff was on the table.

It really is beyond doubt that they could/would headline imo.
