Edit: Never mind, just seen the predictions thread.

Joy Division/ New Order or Radiohead??

One set of musicians are ground breakingly inflential with a 30 odd year career of classic albums and pop hits. The other is a miserable guitar band.

I don't think Bernard Sumner will be losing much sleep about not being as good as Radiohead.

Radiohead havenโ€™t been a particularly guitar orientated band for about 17 years.

I suspect the truth lies somewhere between these two statements. He has good and bad days. When I last saw him in Glasgow he was great, but other Macca instances have been sufficiently more raspy.

to say he is awful is ridiculous though.

and his voice was one of the best rock n roll voices ever!

And he is over 70 too so is bound to have off days. It's not like his songs are easy to sing either, unlike someone like leonard cohen, who is much more consistently brilliant live, but his songs are surely much less challenging.

All that being said, I cant really see the point in mccartney headlining again. Some goes for bowie really. What could they do to top their last gigs?

No established major festival headliner has ever subbed Glastonbury (or certainly in the last 10 years anyway). The closest is probably Kasabian in 2009, but they had only headlined Creamfields at that point rather than any of the real heavy-hitters.

If anything it goes the other way round - see Kings of Leon, Beyonce, etc.

Smashing Pumpkins?

But fair enough, I'm just having a hard time adjusting to the fact that they're a headline act now. I still see them as subbers or Other Stage headliners. I don't put them in that headline bracket alongside other major headlining acts previously played or being talked about headlining Glasto, but I suppose it's only fair to give them a chance.

When did SP sub glaatonbury and they haven't been a major headliner since the 90s, so i assume you mean the 90s sometime and not last year when they subbed the other stage?
