I don't want any nasty surprises, so....

I am about to scrape the bottom of the barrel more than has ever been scraped before!

Which of the following not-really-big-enough acts can we rule out by availability alone?

Calvin Harris

Biffy Clyro

The Prodigy

Noel Gallagher

Elbow

Paolo Nutini

Ellie Goulding

Queens of the Stone Age

Foals

Snow Patrol

The Strokes

Pulp

Bruno Mars

Linkin Park

Pharrell Williams

Rudimental

I saw a post in one of the other threads earlier showing which acts can be ruled out. I'll try and find it. Calvin Harris was one.

I'm fully expecting it to be somebody completely underwhelming, and the reaction on these boards to be along the lines of WTF?!?!

Can we realistically expect it to be an a* blockbuster of an act?

I'm suspecting it too. The blockbusters were Foos and Kayne (because they are blockbusters).

Do we have to expect a British Pop Singer?

You've smashed the barrel with a sledgehammer and dug up the shit from underneath with some of this list.

Snow Patrol...behave yourself.

Offensively appalling garbage

Would love QOTSA, but they've just said they're on a break for a few years now!

The Strokes have ruled themselves out.

My last waits vinyl purchase was Alice.

Think that's right up your chilled waits street.

Martha and hope I don't fall in love with you are two of my favourite songs - never mind favourite Waits songs.

I called my daughter Martha, after this / Wainwright.

Closing time is a dangerous album, I have to be really careful when I listen to it, it's so fucking powerful that it'll mess me up for a couple of hours (sometimes days) after I listen to it, staring out the window ruing the relationships I've fucked up, the mess I've made of things etc. It's a fucking deadly album. Stunningly beautiful and utterly vital but not without consequences.

a few years really?

What a stupid idea, just as they were getting big enough to headline fests. By the time they're back they'll of sunk back down in popularity to sub level

Michael Schuman announced it a couple of days ago. Just re-reading, it was the BBC saying it could be a couple of years, he's just said they're taking a break, as they've been touring for 2 years, but they're the type of band that will always be doing something in between, then will come back. To be fair, they did co-headline R+L last year. I would love them to have done Glasto though - one of my favourite bands, and amazingly good live!

And THAT ^ is about as good an example as to why we listen to music and why it surpasses all other art forms...when done properly.

Fucking amazing.

It's a patchy album overall, but the double whammy of Take It With Me and Come On Up To the House from Mule Variations just levels me.
