chestwig
Seen Depeche Mode in Dubai last year as part of a three day event, half the crowd left after half an hour it was soooo boring to watch, I wouldn't be impressed if they got a headline slot. Key factor here is Dubai. Which is probably one of the most boring sterile make believe places in the world... All the expats there are tasteless cranks with no idea about what's good! Bisque
Just watched some old Prodigy songs & I can't believe its been so long since they massacred the main stage at Reading in '09. Such a great evening until th Artic Monkeys came on
kalifire
Although it's follow up is laughable Ouch, that's a bit harsh. I wouldn't call Fat Of The Land "laughable" by any stretch. There are some quality tunes on that album.
eastynh
I'd say Jilted fits that description. It was the blueprint for rave/rock crossover, and turning dance into a more conventional live show. There was nothing quite like it at the time. LondonTom
I was in my 2nd year at Uni! Anyway, could you just not put a Prodigy Greatest hits CD on after the headliners to get a similar effect ? Mardy
Ah man, jilted is alright, yeah, although ive probably not listened to it for 10 years, but really? People talking about the progidy headlining, its 2015, who wants to see a group of tubby bald men roll out ’firestarter' these days? A ludicrous, depressing proposition. I fucking hate Radiohead, but at least theyre still vaguely relevant and not trading on the university memories of the audience

I fucking hate Radiohead, but at least theyre still vaguely relevant and not trading on the university memories of the audience The Prodigy aren't consciously doing that either in fairness. Some of the places they've been playing - Warsaw, Moscow, St Petersburg, Serbia, Hungary, Ukraine etc - aren't used to seeing big acts come and play really. Well not all of them. They're still touring the hard way. Could be a Vegas act now if they wanted. They're still selling out and its the "new" stuff that gets the big pops from the recent gigs I've been at. Their issue has always been output. They've been playing the same gig for 5-6 years now. This will only be their 6th album in 23 years. They're never a Pyramid headliner though. Agree 100% on that. They shouldn't be considered to play at all without a good new album. Voodoo People for example should be deleted from the masters. sjseabass
Said it before, say it again: The Prodigy got the festival slots they did in 2009 based on the fact they'd done bugger all for five years (and that not as well received as their earlier stuff) and were considered a bit past it. Invaders Must Die came out after they were already in place to headline Other and sub Reading, and went on to get to number one, have several massive singles off it and be ubiquitous on the radio and in clubs. They sold out Milton Keynes Bowl the following year. Assuming the new album doesn't bomb they could comfortably headline. EDIT: Just looking it up, they also spread themselves realllllllly thin that year. Did Global Gathering, Download, Rockness and Isle of Wight, as well as the aforementioned Glasto and R&L, which is just ridiculous in one year. Get them on an exclusive and their slot rises. deschwah
firestarter was a real game changer.. there were people genuinely scared by flinty on totp and it catapulted them onto the world stage and whilst at #1, fat of the land was #1 in the uk and usa and very few uk bands have ever done that apparently never say never, but never on the pyramid again
