I doubt Michael was discussing the festival acts with his wife in a public place, don't you?

I don't doubt Michael was there. The rest of it is very likely to have been their own inventions tho.

I'd say its just the equivalent of speaking about work to your missus over lunch. Y'know, the old "Oh work is so stressful, I've just had 15px-Prince_logo.svg.png pull out of the Sunday so now I've got to push Florence up and get it all announced tomorrow, fuck that Purple bastard" :P

some endearing naivety on display here today.

You're right, we're being naive... it was for publicity! those 12 likes the post got on Facebook will be pulling the punters in.

I think people are just looking at options instead of shooting everything down, nobody is saying 'it's definitely happening today', just 'this could be plausible'

In their replies to someone criticising them for invading privacy they said the following:

"Sorry you feel like that Max Beavis but as you will see we never gave any details of who they were discussing! So we do not feel this was an invasion of privacy! If i told you what they had to eat & how much it cost that would be an invasion of privacy. Everyone local to Glastonbury festival has been speculating on the line up along with some of the staff so we found michael turning up for lunch very exciting. Its such a shame that someone would find cause to discourage such an exciting time for us."

Also the publicity thing ignores the girl there tweeting - which said nothing about the announcement date and went up before the restaurant's Facebook post. Also, restaurant put it on Facebook but not Twitter, which is weird if they're just doing it for the publicity.

I think the level of hysteria is getting all a bit too much here.

Why would some restaurant workers go out of their way to create some elaborate publicity, which has only caught the attention of some forum readers, about a festival organiser who was probably just discussing his work over dinner with his wife?

They probably did sit there and they probably did talk about it, so what? The line-up will be revealed when it's revealed, not much more conspiracy than that.

I don't think there's any reason to think these people are lying or inventing anything. As others have said, pissing off the Eavii (and others, like us), would be really stupid.

try it another way.

Why would Michael take his wife to lunch in a public place, to speak to her about the acts?

Do bare in mind that he has been able to speak to her about the acts every day for the last 6+ months, in a private place without danger of being over-heard, and as something to say about acts crops up in real time.

Do you really think he held all of that back from his wife until the day before ticket payment day, and then toiok her for lunch in a public place to do soi?

Plllleeeeeaaaasase!!

Doesn't an April Fools joke have to be done on April fools day?

Yes it does. That's why that suggestion makes no sense.

It could just be a meal with his wife and they are obviously gonna mention it. Then the staff could just think it's gonna be released today cause he said it would be April 1st all that time ago.

I still think it will be today tho

Has it ever been released in the middle of the day?

Or can I get on with some work until Annie Mac oh wait it is Huw Stephens sitting in for her later?

Hot Chip as Hottest Record and Slaves in Session that might be worth listening to then

Or maybe they went out for lunch and just happened to get chatting about it?

No but I expect one of the staff may have asked who was headlining for Michael to reply 'all will be revealed tomorrow'. I am fully in the 'clutching at straws' camp though!

I think that is quite likely. They didn't say "he said it would be out tomorrow".

For better or worse that was me. Feel a bit shitty for taking them to task but just didn't see it their place to reveal ANY details of the conversation that would not otherwise have been known. Eg "discussing the line up coming very soon" would have been fine, to specify when is sensitive and privileged information. Maybe I'm wrong.

Dick move from me but a rare one. On the timing, I've been backing today for weeks unsure why though. It just seems to make sense. Can't wait to pay up this evening.

I feel like you're reading a lot into how it's NOT true, and people are reading a lot into why it IS true... all speculative really though, both sides of the argument.

Another speculative situation is maybe they just went for lunch to have a bit of a relaxing afternoon at the pub before it all kicks off the day after with announcement and payments, got chatting casually about it (bearing in mind it doesn't specify how detailed they were chatting... could have been just in passing) and then not realising who was listening.

*shrug* we're all just making up scenarios, only time will tell.

Just had a quick look at the official site, I find it bizarre that there isn't a single reference to the fact that the balance window is now open. You would think that would be front and centre. Maybe they haven't bothered as the lineup is going on there very soon?
