Can't use the demographic argument either, Metallica aren't Glastonbury's demographic but they headlined.

Orginally booked for Other Stage :P

And I'd imagine Metellica would have more in common with Indie/Soft Rock fans than the two albums a year market.

Demographics count for a lot, though strangely from this thread Taylor Swift seems to appeal to more "proper" music fans than you would expect.

And to be fair Swift's new album is going to be huge, s

Why? It might be shit even to those who clearly need hearing aids :P

I'm dragging back up the Taylor Swift suggestion to wholeheartedly endorse it. If she subbed Fleetwood Mac it would be brilliant, as would the shitstorm that serious music listeners would kick up. These are post Mumford & Sons days, so nobody can ever get offended about who plays the Pyramid ever again.

not sure so sure, they are alot more niche than say foo fighters or QOSA

Well maybe not as much as the upper ranks of Foos and Muse and stuff but they've got huge widespread appeal from the years of exposure they've had - certainly moreso than QOTSA and some other big rock bands I'd assume.

It's just one of those things. "Proper music fans" adopting young, white pop starlets to prove a point against "proper music fans". Kinda like how this is turning out to be that she can be a "proper Glasto headliner" against people that don't think she's a "proper Glasto headliner" when it really just boils down to her as big with the Glasto going population as Ed Sheeran or Jessie J.

I wonder where Bamber comes down on this one actually... :P

Perhaps she was initially pencilled in by the Eavis' to sub Fleetwood Mac? But since they're now 'unavailable' she'll be the back up headliner if they can't find anyone else to fill the slot? So the BST Hyde Park show has been booked regardless as she'll be in the UK anyway.

I can't imagine her being their first choice, but I can imagine her being booked for a prominent slot because she's current & she shifts albums/tickets.

Of course it's highly likely that AEG simply contacted her to play BST Hyde Park & the fact that it's the same weekend as Glastonbury is merely coincidence in relation to Taylor Swift.

Could somebody please fill me in on why Fleetwood Mac are now not available? Been away for a while so missed any news.

I just refuse to believe an artist I couldn't name a song by (Taylor Swift, until I've seen Shake It Off mentioned in this thread) could headline. I'm 24 and got a pretty good musical knowledge so it's not a case of me being out of touch, it's just that she's not got that wide-ranging an appeal.

If you're 24 I assume you use a fair amount of Facebook which means you must of ran into this around a year ago

Maybe skull trumpet is an older and more obscure meme than I realise.

How do I become a "proper" music fan? Is there a form? Will I get my licence revoked if I like too many songs deemed by the Proper Music Council to be chart fodder for the ignorant sheeple?

*shrugs*

I just meant people who actually buy music/go to gigs on regular basis...rather than people who buy the occasional album at Christmas/once a year gig crowd/12 year old girls. (The later group beingwho you would expect to be into shite like Ms. Swift)

I am going to stick £20 on the Stone Roses. No info and just a hunch. They have never played, they are free to play, they still seem to be together and they owe Mr Eavis one for their drop out. It just makes sense.

problem being I don't think Eavis wants them after their drop out. I think he's on record as saying something about 'never booking a certain band from Manchester' again. Presumably not referring to Oasis.

That's the fall.

Ian brown has played since the stone roses dropped out so presumably eavis couldnt give a shite about the issue.

opposite, i think. He wants them and there's no problem between him and them. Didn't he say on DID the other year that they are one of the bands he'd love to play?
