IVF & glasto baby?

Hi everyone,

After a long ole time, we're finally at the point of starting our first ever ivf treatment. Excited and a bit nervous. The question is - when to start? All our glasto buddies know we're doing this and have been a great support - we've all been many times before - they all know either way im having a sober festival this year! I feel cracking on with the injections at the festival would potentially be a good way of distracting me, keeping busy but relaxing, not working, having fun and would make the whole process easier. Glasto have said they'll look after my stuff for me too. But am I being silly? Should I wait and do it next month?

Thanks in advance for all your helpful comments...

You should probably do it in the middle of the stone circle at sunset while everyone is cheering and drumming. Can't see that failing to help.

I'd say go for next cycle. As another mentioned it's a big deal and if it doesn't work - and there's sadly a fair chance it might not - you'll only end up cursing yourself for risking it even though it could have been down to any of a million other reasons

The very best of luck whenever you choose!

Firstly, best of luck with the IVF treatment and everything that goes with it.

As echoed with what was said earlier...

'Really you should do what you most feel comfortable with and not be swayed by comments of others'

Its good that your camping buddies are aware of what you are going through so none of them questions "why isn't she drinking?"

For what its worth, my missus was doing the IVF treatment the year Bruce Springsteen was on. We actually had to visit the consultant the morning of the travel down!!!

The wifes worry was the box full of needles and drugs and that we would have some explaining to do!!

In the end the sniffer dog must not have been trained for such drugs and we waltzed in without issue (as expected).

I would suggest you go where you feel comfortable. If this is your first time self injecting and you are not too confident then maybe do it in the medical area with experts in attendance.

Do the drugs need to be stored in a chilled area? (and no the stone circle is not that sort of chilled)

We kept the drugs in the tent (a sentence I never thought i'd write) and the wife did the injections when required. She had no problems.

Maybe its worth waiting until you get back from Glasto (assuming this is an option with cycles and stuff). Perhaps the rest and relaxation of glasto will chill you out and be an advantage in that respect.

As above, do whats good for you and your bloke.

The end result of the IVF Treatment for us...

We were on IVF for some time (injections with bruce), but our last Glasto was 4 years ago. We watched hardly anything music wise and ended up coming home early Sunday morning. The reason... The wife was 12 weeks pregnant and suffered for the whole time. It was too hot for her and she could not settle. I was actually home in time to watch Ray Davies on the TV.

We haven't been to Glasto since and are back for our first time with our twin boys (so it does work). This will be their first (OK technically they have been before) and i've warned them if they think they are going to make me come home early this year, they can think again.

As I say, best of luck in your IVF (and to anyone else who is going through it). Its highs and lows and I know we are one of the lucky few. Enjoy glasto in hopefully in 4 years or so you are thinking about taking a family along like we are.

I'll be 25 weeks pregnant at Glasto after a successful 1st round of IVF in January. I would say to wait for next month, but I know I wouldn't have have been able to. Just make sure you start your injections at a sensible time, not too early not too late. Good luck, be positive, increase your protein levels, drink loads of water (3 ltrs a day), it does work. xxx

We did IVF treatment 20 years ago and all I can remember is that it was quite stressful at the time

for me more than Mrs Amos, I would say wait a month , but that is easy for me to say, what ever you

decide I wish you all the best

We were rewarded with loverly twins (and then they grew up) ;)

@keepingeverythingcrossed. In regards to the alcohol, the wife had little or no alcohol. We wanted to do everything not to decrease the odds of success. Looking back though, a lot of this IVF caper is luck and a lot of it is related to your state of mind. You read the books and read the internet as to what is advised.

As your doctor says a wine or two would be no issue if it gets you relaxed and your body right (if that makes sense)

I suspect the no alcohol is more important once you are pregnant. And dont worry - You will get there.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Just in case you're wondering, I spoke to my nurse and she said - go go go to glasto, have an amazing time, relax and have fun, have a couple of drinks spread across the day (she says booze in moderation has no effect on ivf or egg quality -biggest detriment is stressing - eg. about not drinking) and chill and start the injections. So thats what we're doing. Started this morning and it was fine-my husb was amazing, but then maybe he's been waiting for when he can jab me with a needle!

Keeping everything crossed and hoping that a happy state of mind and a peaceful body is the best. Ill let u know how it goes. Thank u for your comments. A week ago I felt wobbly and it helped to hear from you all. now I feel sure this is the right thing to do. @bsolxiv no down reg for me - straight on the stimulating :-)
