Broken leg!

If you contact the disabledenquiries@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk team then they might arrange forward parking for your friend, but thats it, nothing else. Otherwise just be aware that its very tiring on crutches, and your friend might feel a little overwhelmed by crowds as a stronger sense of self preservation kicks in. Good luck!

I broke my leg a few years ago and it will be hard going on crutches, especially as it's uneven ground. The other thing to take into consideration is that it looks like it won't be the driest of festivals this year so they may want to take something to put over the cast to keep it dry. I had some sort of plastic cover with elastic at the top to wear in the shower, but I can't remember what it was called - hope they manage it ok and have a fab time.

Depends if you are camping or campervanning - you may have a very long walk from the car park and he wont be able to carry much. The ground is very uneven and stony in places so making crutches very difficult and it is likely to rain over the weekend meaning muddy conditions in places. Just getting up the stairs to the long drop loos will be difficult! He will be relying on his friends to help with everything - if he has just done it he is meant to be elevating the leg and non-weightbearing probably. I would suggest he gets advice from the Dr. Risk of falling over - high! If he manages to get on site he wont be able to get around much so could settle in front of one stage on a chair!!! I would say stay at home and buy insurance next time!!

There's good medical facilities on site if he has any problems.

I also read something on here about temporary disabilities still being able to get disabled loo access? I might be wrong but it might be worth enquiring about that as a small portaloo or a long drop with crutches wont be easy.

I did it with a broken leg, was no probs - but I could put a little weight on it.

TIPS

Get a cover & Duck tape and rubble bags for when it get's obliterated.

Get decent ergonomic crutches, or at least something to help with the weight bearing on your hands

Load up on pain killers & anti inflammatories (or anyother "pain relief")

Get the code for disabled loos (Just ask another cripple)

Get decent friends

It's difficult getting in and out of a tent when you are on 1 leg. Make sure he has a really big tent if possible.

As it's temporary he won't be able to use the disabled minibus but I say there is no harm in you asking.

You might consider seeing if you can get/make wider 'feet' for the bottom of the crutches to stop them sinking in mud.

He will likely need a lot of help unless he has got used to the crutches and sorted pain relief. Thankfully after my accident when I was there last year I was with lovely friends who made everything alright and looked after me and I ended up enjoying it. :)

The plastic waterproof covers are called Limbo's. I got mine online, probably a bit late for that now. He ideally wants to be out of the plaster of paris cast and into the coloured fibreglass type ones (made out of bandages) as they will withstand water better and you can weight bare on them.

Last time i was at hospital in the plaster room, i saw they had some waterproof covers - could be worth calling them (or the fracture clinic) and asking if he can have one.
