Tangerine Fields tent robberies 2013

Just a quick heads up for anyone who is using Tangerine Fields, there was a large number of tents robbed within the field last year and a number of those robberies happened when people were acutally asleep in their tents.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE THE INTERNAL SECURITY POCKET WITHIN THE TENTS TO LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES IN WHILST YOU SLEEP.

We were robbed Fri night into Sat morning last year and encountered atleast another 5 people who suffered the same fate on the same night whilst they were asleep in their tent.

There was absolutely no help from the onsite Tangerine Fields staff.

The TITP welfare team were excellent though and provided facilities to contact banks etc to cancel cards and suchlike.

Ironic as we used Tangerine Fields for its supposed added security.

I camped in Pink last year, all the tents around us got robbed on the Thursday night, apart from us. We woke up as they tried to get into ours as we used a tip I picked up a few years ago at Leeds.

Take some string and tie as many empty cans as possible to one zip. If someone tries to get in at night, they'll more than likely pant themselves at the noise and be offski very quickly, unless they're bold as brass. It should also hopefully wake you up if you have a fair amount of cans. Do not tie the tent shut, as mentioned above, the risk of tents getting set on fire etc.

And keep anything particularly valuable at the bottom of your sleeping bag, if you can.

Lovely way to scare the crap outta 1st timers... Just be sensible... I've never heard of someone holding up a tent, I'm from springburn I think I'm more likley to get robbed in my own area than at T. If you're targeted use sense and give it up anyway, money n crap can be replaced.

Ha,maybe not what first timers want to be reading.Well maybe not a knife, but a mallet or something.I know it is very unlikely but it could happen.Reading a story in the Glastonbury bit and someone said 2 guys went into someones tent and assaulted him.Could be more to the story but made me think.

You all look after each other at festivals. No one will hold up a tent because they wouldn't get far once you scream. They'll sneak about and try steal stuff on the sly but you can do stuff to make it difficult. Make an obstacle course with chairs and bags etc, do the cans thing ( I like that). If you are in a group try and circle the wagons i.e have the entrances of tents facing each other. I swear by a money belt and that doesn't get taken off all weekend. The best defence though is to stay up drinking all night :)

What number of pink were you in? I now vaguely remember my friend saying she thought she heard someone trying to get into our tent, can't mind what night it was. We were in pink 1.

I just keep my phone and money in my sleeping bag with me, don't want to take any chances.

the worst ive had taken (touch wood) were a few tent pegs out of the ground (i had some spares) and 4 cans that were in the porch of my tent. i was more bothered about my cans as i really fancied them on the saturday night and had to end up drinking sundays rations that were at the bottom of my tent. i try not to leave anything too valuable in my tent when i am not there and when im sleeping its always either in my sleeping bag or under my pillow. that being said tho i rarely get much sleep

One of my mates all put his money in his denims, rolled them up an used them as a pillow and someone still managed to steal his money. his denims were found outside the tent trampled into the mud!! This was probably 2008/2009 in Blue on the Friday night. My other mate lost around £150 that night too.

Be careful with your money folks!!

Last year we were camping in Purple 2 and the Australians who were camping across from us got their tent broken into when they were asleep and they got £60 stolen. Now, that same night I woke up to the sound of the tent being unzipped but I just presumed that it was my friend coming back from the toilet. Turns out that he didn't leave the tent all night. So had I not woken and sat up we could of had our tent robbed. Don't let that put any first timers off though.

Read devilmans post, as always top drawer.....

Balado is the fourth biggest town in Scotland that weekend, how much crime will there be in the other towns? I do the cans it is a good tip. Get a locker, I posted a link in another thread, lock your money and phones away each night. Do not lock your tent, they will open it using a knife. Don't take anything you will lose sleep over if you lose...

Tangerine fields is not bad, remember anyone in there has paid over £100 to be there, although thefts will happen there as well will be less common. This is my fourth time at TF, touch wood I've not had an issue.....

advice with money would be, use the cash machine and only take out what you are going to spend, leaving money lying around is a silly move, with phones and wallets etc it's very difficult, was a victum of a stolen phone last year and this year i've bought a brick phone that cost £10. Don't leave things in your tent and if you lock your tent, there's still nothing to stop people slashing it to get in. I really like that can idea, i'll definitely adopt that method this year. Unfortunately at every festival you will get some people who will steal so just count yourself lucky if you don't get anything stolen. A part form that, enjoy the weekend
