A Guy Called Matt
Valentines, in my opinion, is just another commercialised day aimed at making more money for already rich companies and has little to do with the real meaning - if indeed there ever was a real meaning. I don't need a day like this to tell Mrs Mattyc I love her - that happens every day and I buy her stuff when I feel like it not when the shops tell me too. It is also a day like Christmas when those who have not got the other half, or family etc, are made to feel lonely or unwanted. That is wrong. Mr Splodge
Debbie away so I am sitting here alone, drinking Ale, nice open fire and watching the rugby. Next two weekend will be a lot of fun tho.
H.M.V
Well I'm on my own but don't feel alone. I have very nice friends who came to visit last night, we drank, we ate and we boogied. They have left me Gin and Chocolates. So having a sofa day and snuggles with the pooches and eating me chocs. Noice!

carlosj
HMV, I've got gin chocolates, brill combo. Matt, it does get cloying and can irritate, so here's a lurve track to buoy us all up. Flight of the Conchords- Business Time:
bennyhana22
Well it's been a day of two halves...fortunately it's the second that is the better one. Started poorly after waking up to the remainder of a tiff with Mrs Ben - nothing too catastrophic, just silly, really. I went off and walked the dog - that was lovely. Then Pilates for me, then picked up her flowers (sorry, Matt!), then went for a run. Had a shower and then Sarah (the aforementioned Mrs B came back from her run. She'd been out most of the time of my activities as she'd done 15 miles! She's running the Paris Marathon in April, and Saturday is usually her 'long run' day. I did 6! Anyhoo, gentle marital thawing then ensued as I tended to her post-run exhaustion etc. Then a couple of pressies for each other and things are now fine! Made steak for Child 1 and Child 3's tea (Child 2 just gone out for a ruby with friends) and will repeat bovine loveliness for my beloved and me later. So that's all good. Hope everyone else had/is having a lovely Valentine's Day. I'm less cynical about this than the other commercial festivals as it is the one I can 'control'. I do and buy the things that only I want to, with no feeling of obligation or coercion. And I'm a million miles from any of the cheesy tackiness with which one is bombarded. ICGenie
Slightly baffled by the couples on my timeline going to see Fifty Shades Of Grey yesterday. "Happy Valentines, let's go and watched a film about domestic abuse." So romantic...

A Guy Called Matt
Mr B Mrs B, 15 miles, wow. Well done her. Then again your 6 miles is impressive. I can walk all day but running is beyond me. Just realised, we have Chaphop in the thread!!!
Yoghurt on a Stick
St Valentines Day was an odd one for me. Owing to excess on Thursday night I kind of missed Friday altogether. I was told while half asleep that the neighbour wanted to borrow our van at 8am. When asked by the neighbour what we'd been up to my wife answered like she'd taken the truth drug and answered with ' we've been naughty'. I'm not sure what the neighbour made of this but he didn't turn up on Saturday morning at 8am. Instead he turned up at 9.40am and said there's been a change of plan. I was then sent out by my wife to get some more 'provisions' so that we'd be OK to hold a sort of dinner party with another couple. Then I returned to find out about two hours later that the neighbour now wanted the van after all. So we gave him the van then realised that we couldn't get to the shops to get the food for the meal. It then just got worse and worse as the day / evening / night wore on. You just couldn't make the shit up that went down. It gets worse - I'm suppossed to go to a family do today. Whilst I love my family dearly I really don't want to do the family thing right now. The day is even more complicated than that really, but if I don't stop thinking about it my head'll burst. rumpola
Morning all. Hope everyone had a nice Saturday. Had a lovely day drinking cider and watching rugby with the Mrs yesterday daytime and finished it off with a few episodes of Eastbound and Down whilst drinking JD in bed. A dull, drizzly day here in Bristol today so gonna have a tidy up and go for a roaster in a country pub later methinks. Yog, I hope it all turns out OK in the end for you. Also, had a bit of a Glasto dream last night that I was running through thick cornfields by the 'Hill of Death, at gate C, in gorgeous sunshine. Hopefully this will come true at the end of June(the sunshine, not the cornfields obviously).
Yoghurt on a Stick
Appreciated, thanks rumpola. It'll be OK really - I think I'm just having a dramatic moment. Anyway, I think I've come up with a plausible reason to inform the family why I can't attend. Just got to run it by the wife when she wakes up to see if it has any grounding in common decency. lucyginger
Slightly baffled by the couples on my timeline going to see Fifty Shades Of Grey yesterday. "Happy Valentines, let's go and watched a film about domestic abuse." So romantic... Yeah it's an odd one! Now I haven't read the book or seen the film, but I do know there is an issue about consent. I don't want to go into detail, but as a fairly active member of the fetish/BDSM side of things, I know consent is one of the first things anyone ever discusses. Anyhow, it's a bit damp here but the birds are singing away out in the woods. I love living here.

H.M.V
Really don't get the 50 shades of shite thing. It is somewhat amplified by the fact that it seems every single business is using it in one way or another as a promotional tool. And I believe there's more than one book which means more fecking movies. Le sigh. Feel like such a saddo, have a ticket going for Royal Blood now cos friend can't make it and nobody to go with. Damn you Monday night gigs. Anyone fancy a visit to the Emerald Isle for a gig?

I would love to but just not possible - sob There is an efests thread for tickets somewhere, maybe there is another Irish Efester who might?
