I'm surprised the concept of a 'Bond Girl' is still tolerated / not even questioned / discussed.

As utterly stunning as Lea Seydoux is (although not as phenomenally beautiful as Adele Exarchopoulos).

They do attempt to add a millimetre of depth to the female characters every film and show up Bond as the near-sociopathic user of women that he is... But, yeah I agree. Bond does seem to get something of a free pass when it comes to the female characters. Although to be fair, the 'Bond Girl' in the last film was really M, Bond's boss and taken pretty seriously.

Has the main baddie in a Bond film ever been a woman? Seems like the time is ripe now that M is going to be male again.

And if we're taking beautiful Bond girls, see my previous comment about Casino Royale.

Oh, and just so you know...us bumchins all stick together you know. We don't fraternise outside of our own caste. So unless you have a cleft chin, you've got no chance.

NB (from Wiki): In Persian Literature the chin dimple is considered a factor of beauty, and is metaphorically referred to as "the chin pit" or "the chin well": a well in which the poor lover is fallen and trapped.

Given that we live in a country where people are happy for a racist with a violent streak to represent our biggest and most internationally respected organisation as long as it makes a load of money, I think you massively over-rate how advanced we are as a species.

Easy there, Genie...i'm not picking a fight.

It's a pretty valid observation / point for discussion regarding popular culture which retains its resonance outside the wider context of global socio-economics and the wider ramifications for humanity as a whole.

We watched Home, an existential farce focusing on the rarity of the human condition in an empty universe.

Rated U.

Edit

We, and the many other children enjoyed it immensely.

The 'Bond Girls' in recent films are definitely becoming more than just decoration, though. Either as intelligent colleagues or adversaries. Not as 'enlightened' as it could be, but a hell of a lot better than the attitudes in the books!

The closest was probably Sophie Marceau, who was a kind of co-baddie in The World Is Not Enough. Grace Jones was a pretty wicked henchwoman in View To A Kill too.

Hi Dee...what was the rent-a-crowd post about?

Went to the first of the auditions for Pilton Party and the first band was from a local college - they bought their fans with them. A pint of coke and 20 straws. They be only young uns and need MUCH more gigging practice before they could play a big stage. They also killed (in a bad way) a Biffy Clyro song which didn't help their cause. The second band were good - even Michael liked them. But they were a little older and obviously had gigged far more.

Fav Bond has got to be Mr Connery. Roger Moore makes my skin crawl. Something utterly creepy about him.

Has anyone noticed I'm a bit of a Bond fan?

I had a nice chilled afternoon watching formula 1 and 6 nations rugby. Tonight I'm making mrs gumby a Mother's Day dinner of pork chops in cider gravy, mustard mash and Savoy cabbage with bacon. Hope everyone has a good evening!
