Mr Splodge
Great weekend shame body was not working correctly. Knackered. Anyone who is thinking of using M4 between Swindon and Newbury it has very narrow lanes and speed restrictions.

ICGenie
Easy there, Genie...i'm not picking a fight. It's a pretty valid observation / point for discussion regarding popular culture which retains its resonance outside the wider context of global socio-economics and the wider ramifications for humanity as a whole. Sorry, tiring a little of the constant Clarkson blathering happening on my FB and Twitter feeds!
ICGenie
HMV I have got the day off on Friday to watch the eclipse, so I am with you on the please don't be cloudy thing! On Friday morning I shall be recovering from my first hangover of the weekend. But I shall certainly be planning on viewing the eclipse. I suggest we all do happy dances and chants as the sun reappears to celebrate it's wondrousness. Does anyone know where you can buy those glasses to watch through? Preferably not online (no time!) stuartbert two hats
Sorry, tiring a little of the constant Clarkson blathering happening on my FB and Twitter feeds! Luckily the only thing I've seen is a thread on FB where we all agree that we don't give a fuck.

thurlow84
Did I read somewhere that there could be power cuts in some areas due to the lack of solar powered energy being generated due to the eclipse? Dont think theres a high enough proportion of homes that use solar power for it to effect many people if any, there will be enough juice in the packs to cover a the length of the eclipse
H.M.V
I seriously think the Taylor Swift thing has got to be a wind up. Like seriously. It is weird. Grown adults swooning over a pop star. Surely Kylie has more cred? No? Been scratching my head over this one for ages now. Really wish Glasto would announce something.

As if people were losing their shit over Pink or Avril Lavigne or someone like that. There seems to be something there to get such a reaction, but I've no idea what it is. ICGenie
I don't get the Taylor Swift thing either. But then being neither a young girl or the parent of one I'm very out of the loop. I'll ask my sister at the weekend, my nieces are 7 and 9. If anyone has their fingers on the current pop pulse it'll be them. Mind you I'm convinced the Kanye thing is a wind up too... H.M.V
Afraid to mention Kanye, that's entering downvote territory and learned my lesson from the Arcade Fire obsessives from last year. It all gets evangelical with him and can't even begin to ponder upon that one. Although I did think Gold digger was a cracking tune.

This one is 98% and next one not till 2026 or something like that. At least visible on these fair isles. Pretty sure the last one was in 2000 cos we went away for new years and friends were arranging to go to France to see it.

Yoghurt on a Stick
Did I read somewhere that there could be power cuts in some areas due to the lack of solar powered energy being generated due to the eclipse? Having no direct access to your mind, it's hard to say what you have and have not read. Only joking. It's an interesting suggestion but could only really see it momentarily affecting properties with virtually total reliance on solar power - and I wonder how few of these there would be in the country. Anybody on the grid should get normal power as the energy companies will factor the eclipse in and produce more electricity via the other forms of power generation. They already do this at pre-known peak times of electricity demand eg. when Eastenders finishes they know that masses of people will go into the kitchen and put the kettle on creating a huge surge in power demand. As an aside, one of my friends has got the most energy efficient detatched property in Birmingham (or it could be the West Midlands, I forget which). He actually produces more energy than the family uses and sells the excess back to an energy company. There was a pretty steep initial outlay, but he'll never get a pesky energy bill again. Ever. Edited to say - just watch all the blackouts on Friday now that I've said there wont be! Edited March 15, 2015 by Yoghurt on a Stick
lucyginger
It may have been 2000, I was ill with M.E at the time so my memory is not great! And I don't mean I was ill with The Eavi, before anyone says anything funny
ICGenie
I thought it was 1999 as I was between being a student and being gainfully employed. So I shoved a sleeping bag in my car and drove down to Cornwall on a whim. Probably the most spontaneous thing I've ever done in my life. Yoghurt on a Stick
11th August 1999http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse_of_August_11,_1999 I remember it vividly. I was in the south of the UK coming back from a cheap coach / camping holiday to Spain. Everybody, especially the children, were excited to see the eclipse. However, the driver was more interested in getting home. Just before the point of total eclipse he drove in through a massive tunnel so we never got to experience the full effect. Kids were crying, mothers and fathers furious.
H.M.V
I always though the power surge was attributed to the ad break in Corrie.
