OK, finally getting round to my Saturday diary!

(I know most of you probably aren't interested but it's nice to write these things down somewhere while they are relatively fresh!)

So a little more history. As part of the Marillion Weekends, we have a pub quiz. Originally run by the fan club, then by the Cakeyboys (after they won it too many times). The winners of Saturday's quiz get to play against the band on the main stage on Sunday in a grand final. We one the Saturday quiz in 2011 and won again in 2013, beating the band as well. The Cakeyboys were fed up of writing the quiz so it was agreed we should take up the mantle.

So after two years of planning, the quiz was hosted. Myself and my husband did all the asking, we had a valiant troop of markers and scorers to back us up. 33 teams took part in all (less than usual but we did encourage small teams to group together so we might have less marking to do!) It was a close run thing and ended in a draw and a tie-breaker. Plans were made with the winners for Sunday (more about that later!)

Went back to the chalet and consumed much Grendel (a cocktail the name of which may mean something to Gumby and Benny!) Grendel is traditionally served in a pint glass and consists of:

2 shots vodka

2 shots white rum

2 shots advocaat

1 shot creme de menthe

1 shot blue curacao

1 shot Cointreau

4 shots cream

Topped up with lemonade

We tend not to drink it in pints as it's a bit lethal. My sister was well and truly necking it though...

Someone took a deep-fat fryer (don't ask) so home-made chips were made. Chips and Marmite were a revelation! I was crashing slightly from the day's adrenaline and took a nap before the gig.

The gig for the night was Marbles, often consider Marillion's best album. It's certainly a good starting point to their more modern work. The visuals were absolutely stunning, the best I've ever seen the band produce. At the end of the album, someone said, "have you seen your sister lately?" Now I knew she's had a skinful but it wasn't like her to disappear. Consequently I missed the encores looking for her. Eventually went back to the chalet, eventually got a text from her saying she was ok and on her way back. Turned out she'd passed out in the loo and woke up thinking, "this isn't Marillion" when the post-gig music was on. She'd missed about an hour of the gig...

Crisis averted and sister tucked up in bed, I headed to Rockaoke. These guys are AWESOME!!! Karaoke with a live band. Unfortunately although I put my usual Mustang Sally up someone else got in first so I didn't get to sing (they were bloody rubbish too!). Still a lot of the others were good.

Then headed to a neighbouring Pink Party. Stayed for a bit but the excitement of the day and thought of what I needed to do on Sunday drove me back to my bed...

(Incidentally, my husband who was laughing at my sister, saying, "at least it wasn't me" and making out he wasn't that drunk curled up on the sofa and fell asleep at around midnight...)

Fuck me that was a long post!

It was indeed!

Sounds like a busy weekend.

I've heard of the Grendel cocktail, (sulphurous essence,eh?) but never tried it because it includes Advocaat, and if I'm honest, I'd rather teabag Michael Eavis than drink that shit!

Looking forward to the Sunday report!
