Other Stage Headliners 2015

I don't think anyone can say for certain. They've been in close proximity during the 2013 and 2014 festivals, but seemingly couldn't work things out. Most likely some sort of payment/position dispute.

Edit: Here you go.

Thanks.

Yeah it's quite possible it's still rumbling on.

It would be a real pity of it stopped them playing again.

I think anyone would be hard pushed to go to a gig of theirs and not admit they are a top class live act

I agree they wouldn't headline the whole thing but I think they'd be an outstanding and hugely popular Other Stage headliner.

When you consider some of the dross that has had that slot recently, The National would certainly provide one of the finest headline sets seen on that stage for a very long time.

I understand I'm subjective but the word 'weak' is not one I could associate with them in any way.

It's not happening though!

Saw a bit of them on the Other in (2010 or 2011) pretty enjoyable stuff - I wouldn't go as far to say that they would be one of the finest headline sets for a long time though.

They'd bomb though. Just not the type of music that is easily accessible or enjoyable at first listen, live, when you're looking to have a good time.

Don't get me wrong, love them, but the O2 gig was pretty average for that reason, Other Stage headliner could really bomb, and Pyramid almost definitely would.

Set has been well beefed up again since then though IMO, and they have a better stage presence now as well I think.

As I say, I am biased

Oh I'd love for them to headline the other stage, I just don't think that they'd draw a big crowd. I'm not sure how well known they are outwith their fanbase either.

Would people go if they didn't already like them though?

I wasn't there the last time they played Glasto so can't comment on how well it went down.

But their 6 Music festival gig last year looked superb and I think Glasto would have at least 10,000 - 15,000 fans of the band, more than enough to ensure the set didn't bomb

Yeah maybe I'm overestimating it.

I just thought their last tour suggested a big increase in popularity.

Anyways, all this talk is getting my hopes up and that's not good!

Well I think they've got a lot of actual fans. So they'll sell out their own gigs. I just don't think they have much cross over into non-fans.

And I'd say at least 50% of people at any gig on Other/Pyramid are people who are just there out of interest, or because friends are, or they can't be arsed to move. I don't know how well TN would go down with them.

Fair points.

Most of us have probably seen a headliner we weren't fussed about out of sheer laziness as well

It's odd. At almost every other European country they play festivals in, The National headline, yet here in the UK they're rarely considered for such a slot. Weird. I saw them headline a festival in Denmark last summer, with Arcade Fire and Queens of the Stone Age the other headliners, and they had just as big a crowd as those two. I agree, though, might be pushing it here. Still, why not give them a go? Saying that, I'd prefer them to do it when they have a record out rather than two years after the last one and a year before the next one, as this summer will likely be.

Are the National really that big? Are you suggesting they're an album away from headlining the Pyramid? Don't get me wrong I have a couple of their albums and have a passing interest in them but I just haven't ever considered them to be more than a fairly cultish band? Certainly not of the type to ever headline the whole thing anyway.

Wishful thinking a bit on my part - plus I don't think they're that far behind Arcade Fire in terms of popularity. I'm not sure if the band are fussed about making a more mainstream album that could raise their profile though. They're a far better than live band than Mumford and Sons, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys too, IMO.

People keep mentioning Bjorks exclusivity to Manchester International Festival as a reason she probably won't play; but she is playing Wilderness as well?

It was said the manchester international fest would be her first uk date this year, and it's after G
