ryan.smith
Sunset I agree If Ben Howard does play, I can see him headlining Other now - Number 1 album and all that
kingcrawler
If Ben Howard does play, I can see him headlining Other now - Number 1 album and all that Yeah I wouldn't be too surprised to see him headline Other now given that he's just announced an arena tour. dentalplan
Stronger argument for him now but given Nutini subbed it with a number one and an impressive arena tour, I wouldn't consider it done yet.
Matt42
Exactly what I came here to put, he could arguably headline other now. Ben Howard Calvin Harris Alt-J would be far too crappy though
The Placid Casual
Ben Howard with Alt J below him or vice versa. They won't both be booked to headline With Calvin Harris being the 3rd, you have a very depressing view on who they're going to book

Brave Sir Robin
Let's try and improve the tone of this thread by discussing who could follow QOTSA/Pumpkins/Pixies as the big rock act on Other. Faith No More? Soundgarden?
Matt42
I really want it to be sigur ros but they look like they have no plans for next year.

Matt42
I reckon Ben Howard could play below Calvin harris much akin to Paulo and skrillex this year What I was suggesting, think it would work pretty well. I can't see Ben Howard being a massive draw away from a pyramid headliner if i'm honest.
Bradders
If these rumours are true it looks like I'm gonna find myself not only not seeing any Pyramid headliners but no Other headliners either. Only happened once before for me, 2010, when I didn't particularly rate any headliner I saw. (though of course they're not really rumours (apart from Alt-J) they're just people throwing names into a hat, and the more times the name gets randomly thrown in, the more it begins to become a 'rumour', and just like that we're talking about Ben Howard like it's a done deal despite, as far as I know, there being no reason for this whatsoever) Edited October 27, 2014 by Bradders
ryan.smith
but that's the point of the forums isn't it? It's speculation, and I think as long as people justify why they think certain acts will play certain positions, it's not a problem. I'm not getting my hopes up about any acts, I just think it's fun to speculate. Nobody knows anyway: this time last year everyone was predicting Elbow, Fleetwood Mac and Depeche Mode as 'done deal' Pyramid headliners, and none of them appeared at the top. justperfect
Placebo have today announced Feb and March dates for a UK tour. Possibly head off into Europe for a month then back to these shores for summer festival dates. A headline on the other could be on the cards Edited October 27, 2014 by justperfect

Usually the other stage is the stage that I see most acts on through the weekend. Some of the talk here gives me the impression that isn't going to last. Calvin Harris? Give me strength. justperfect
Are they any smaller in terms of popularity than say Portishead or the xx who headlined last year?
FloorFiller
Are they any smaller in terms of popularity than say Portishead or the xx who headlined last year? definitely. Placebo are long past their peak popularity wise, whereas the other two band's last albums both reached number one. Placebo would play third down at best
bocumaroy
I’ll just keep saying New Order, it’s bound to happen if I do it enough. New album in the works, so they’ve got to be in with a good shout, surely?

I'd say Portishead are about the same size as Placebo these days, however Portishead kind of have the "pioneers of their genre" factor That factor is pretty much what sets them apart. Placebo's fanbase mostly consists of those who latched onto them in the late 90's/early 00's and they haven't been passed down the generations as they were just a kinda typical alternative rock band. Portishead, however, are still held in as high regard as they ever were and are the most popular and acclaimed trip-hop act.
