Other Stage Headliners 2015

Indeed only down point of the whole show.

Anyway Bloc Party reunion in 2015! (They didn't actually split up this time did they? Just said they was doing other things for a bit and it will be a while before they come back?..Apart from the drummer, he left during the tour :P)

They never actually split up do they? Just announce hiatuses. I think the drummer leaving is a lot more telling than any announced break though.

Reckon the headliners might be:

Royal Blood

Foals

Rudimental

Queue you all shooting me down :) haven't looked in to it to much mind you!

Utterly wrong.

It's cue. ;)

I could see Rudimental subbing it or as a (very) goodwill gesture headlining.

Calvin Harris won't headline Pyramid, too big for SH, so Other seems to fit ala Skrillex.

No idea about New Order, too big?

Foals said at Bestival they won't be around for a bit but a Other headlining slot wouldn't look bad for album sales.

Alt-J, yeah maybe, were a bit boring at reading last year. Are they playing arenas now (my friend invited me to an upcoming gig but turned it down)?

Royal Blood I don't think have earned an Other headlining gig & perhaps not enough songs to fill the slot.

I think that if the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, the Prodigy & the Pet Shop Boys can headline the Other then surely New Order can? I'd say they'd either be Other headliners or Pyramid subbers. Quite sure Neil said that he was nearly certain that Alt-J were booked to headline the Other? Royal Blood I think maybe headlining the JP? Or maybe somewhere higher up on the Other? Foals could headline the Other but I think they'll be working on their new album next summer.

I don't think Glastonbury really owe anything to Rudimental or any of the acts disrupted by the rain. It's a shame obviously for any act to have that happen but each stage seemed to manage the situation pretty well at the time and not screw any acts on their slot.

Were Rudimental not only cut off about 5/10 minutes before the end anyway? I agree that the festival doesn't really owe them anything.

I'm expecting them to play next year but that's more because it seems like they'll have a new album out by then.

Oh will they? That's fair enough then. Still not convinced they'll play though considering their slot on the Pyramid was fairly big.

I wouldn't say they're as big as Massive Attack, Portishead, Queens of the Stone Age, Pet Shop Boys, Prodigy etc. So yeah, headlining the Other Stage is the right slot for them. It's the only slot I could see them doing to be honest.

What constitutes bigger? Is it just off what kind of crowd they would draw at Glastonbury? Or are we talking about history, record sales, influence and tickets sold elsewhere?

Either way I would be ecstatic if New Order were on. They have new material, the album is apparently out next year. There has been no uk tour for two years and not played at all in UK since Jodrell Bank last summer.

They will be about next Summer. Hopefully at Glastonbury. Would settle for V fest though and possibly Manchesters Summer In The City.

If they would get a decent crowd outside of Manchester :P

Considering when they done Hyde Park with Blur they was on before Specials, I'd guess they at them being JP headliners or like 3rd on the Pyramid if they played.

They headlined Bestival in 2012. They will have a new album out and are still selling out mid sized veneues.

I think they would also headline the MTV stage at V.

Makes no difference to me where they play at Glastonbury just as long as they play.

Is the MTV Stage the 2nd stage at V? Doubt they'd be that high up, they only headlined the King Tuts tent at T in 2012 which is more comparable to V than Bestival. Edited by kingcrawler

new order were crap last time they played.

To be fair there is no middle ground with New Order in a live sense. They are either magical or abysmal. It really depends what mood Bernard is in.

But on the whole they have been great live since Hooky left. Whether that has been Bernard doing it out of spite or whether now being a 5 piece has made a difference, I do not know.

Maybe they don't take it for granted any more.

Yeah it is the second stage.

Like I said, I am not arsed where they play as long as they do. I have seen them play to massive crowds and to small crowds.

I would love to see them at Glastonbury though.

I can believe that. I think they need a headline slot to shine. I saw them at that blur thing mentioned earlier and they were crap there too, but that was in the middle of the day in front of a disinterested crowd.

If I remember rightly it was shit weather and a shit crowd waiting for coldplay in 2005.

But I think give them a headline slot on the other stage and it could be a different story. Half way up the other/pyramid and they'll most likely be crap again.

Be less sure. :)

What I said was that someone has told me that they are, and that the idea makes sense to me.

I've no idea if what i've been told is correct, as the person who told me hasn't (as far as I can remember) told me anything before. It could be 100% bullshit for all I know; it could also be something he's genuinely heard but is wrong; and it could be right, too.

As a booking for that stage, tho, it makes sense to me - it's something I could see happening. So my inclination right now is to think it has a decent chance of being right. But it could be wrong.

It has deffo got to be a headline spot, they would not work during the day. Thinking on it may be more apt for them to headline JP. He was a massive follower of both Joy Division and New Order. I would love tgat. Put them up against Foo Fighters or a band like that and I would be very happy.

Have a listen to their set from Bestival, it is fantastic. Some of the reworks of early New Order and Joy Division tunes are great. The purists were not happy but from a live perspective they really work.
