Other Stage Headliners 2015

Every day on here is another day of "let's slag off something modern and popular because it's cool to hate popular stuff, or possibly because we're just out of touch with what's popular these days but we want to make that the fault of all of the young kids because we hate to admit we could be wrong, while making yet another post about how some drivel spewing hippy from the 70s should definitely headline because honestly they're the only ones worth seeing because we know everything about music and they basically fart in perfect C".

Give me a break. For what it's worth I'm not a massive fan of CandTBottleM or whatever but I'm so sick of every other post being one that reads "blah blah is honestly the shittest band ever in history". You're just a bunch of fucking trolls. Peace.

Oh do fuck off, its a dicussion forum about music festivals, people are just as entitled to voice their opinion about something being shit without being called a troll as someone is to say they like/hope they will play. Its nothing to do with an act being popular, its because they thought the act being discussed was shit. More popular acts get dicussed more.

Otherwise it would just full of endless mostly baseless speculation.

For the record:

Mark Ronson: Okish tunes, that he rips off others a bit for.

Catfish and the Bottlemen: Mostly shit.

Did that come across as bitter? I'm coming from a pretty neutral POV, I only said 'apparently' because it's a placement put forward by others as opposed to an opinion offered myself. I thought it was relevant to a consideration of where Jamie T would play. I used to be a fan of the Libertines but I'm not really fussed about seeing them anymore. I'd watch Jamie T over them.

They were suggested for a secret slot opening the Other Stage. If they were playing an announced slot it'd probably be as Pyramid subs or Other headliners.

I agree. I don't think I was very clear.

I was saying that The Libertines sold that many tickets, which is much more than Jamie T, so if the Libertines are Other headline level, Jamie T probably isn't.

Seems perfectly reasonable logic. Doesn't always work out like that, but I'd agree that Jamie T doesn't seem right as an Other headliner.

Yeah, didn't he headline JP several years ago when he was more current? I'm not aware of anything he's done since then to justify the step up to Other.

he went on a bit of a hiatus and made a pretty successful comeback, but headline Other? nah. stick him in the Paolo slot under an electronic act. think that'd do him well

His new stuff in the last several months has raised his profile up to where it previously was, but as you say even back then he wasn't big enough to headline the Other.

All modern music is shit.

Apart from Lykke Li.

Quite enjoyed it when he first came out, his early live shows were always a lot of fun but his music definitely hasn't aged well. I can't imagine he would be much higher than late afternoon on the Other Stage or mid to high on JPT. His album hasn't been pulling up trees and there's no great clamour that I can see for him at the moment? I could have it completely wrong of course.

his first comeback shows sold out almost instantly so there's definitely still a high demand for him. i thought he'd done himself a huge disservice by disappearing for a few years but it seems to have done the opposite. reckon he'll definitely have a fairly prominent slot - higher than his previous slot (JP headline)

Yeah his tour sold out really quick. I really like his new album, and it went down so well in the gigs. Personally I think he could headline, but that's just me, I agree he'll prob sub, but as I mentioned before, I prefer the smaller stages, so am hoping if he plays, he does some secret sets and I hear about them, I'd be all over that.

His album hasn't been pulling up trees

Well quite. Of course it's not as simplistic as a basic comparison of album sales but if it were then then two of the Other Stage subs in 2014 were bigger than two of the Pyramid subs. In terms of things that can be measured, Jamie T isn't comparable with Paolo Nutini or Ellie Goulding at all, in any way, and never will be. Third down or staying as JP headliner for me.

What happened to hot chip on the other? They are dead certs for glast.

Maybe they could do the faithless sunset slot on the pyramid?

nah definitely not big enough for that. i can't think of anywhere else they'd play apart from the same slot they had in 2010 (sub), unless they perhaps headline JP (or at a push, even WH)
