I didn't even realise The National were likely to play. That would be an an exceptionally dumb bit of scheduling! TN would almost certainly a better sub for Blur than whoever we get... And they're only one huge album away from headlining themselves.

Don't get me wrong I have a couple of their albums and have a passing interest in them but I just haven't ever considered them to be more than a fairly cultish band? Certainly not of the type to ever headline the whole thing anyway.

Yeah they're certainly more of a cult band than potential pyramid headliners. I'd say they're probably a strong Other sub but a fairly weak Other headliner at the moment and I doubt that'll change too much. Not sure how much bigger they can realistically now.

And while SR would be an amazing booking, I'm 90% sure they haven't even vaguely suggested they're going back on the road. Just off a huge two year tour and they've toured their latest album. They have a huge set which they spend months of work on creatively.... I just can't see that being a 'one-off surprise' booking.

I agree they wouldn't headline the whole thing but I think they'd be an outstanding and hugely popular Other Stage headliner.

When you consider some of the dross that has had that slot recently, The National would certainly provide one of the finest headline sets seen on that stage for a very long time.

I understand I'm subjective but the word 'weak' is not one I could associate with them in any way.

I've seen snippets of info suggesting this.

What is the issue exactly?

Did they want to play and were refused a slot?

I don't think anyone can say for certain. They've been in close proximity during the 2013 and 2014 festivals, but seemingly couldn't work things out. Most likely some sort of payment/position dispute.
