Amy Lawn
But why are they 'vintage'? Tis a serious question!! What makes one year better than another. Is it the line up, the weather, how much you personally enjoyed it??? I think 2014 was vintage as it was my first!!!
stuartbert two hats
Line up weather and lots of other little factors in a zeitgeist that gives a gist of how good it was. I'd say 2014 wasn't a "vintage year" from the vibe people give off, 2009 I would say was a "vintage year"
stuartbert two hats
Nope, they'll have the media pointing out it wasn't true last time. All his previous similar statements could be reconciled to the facts in some way or another. That doesn't work at all for 2014. Journo's tend to remember who they put trust in who then made their writing look foolish, to avoid looking foolish again.
eFestivals
I think you're being too generous. Most journalists didn't notice that the "4th headliner" didn't turn up - do you really think the NME know the difference between Michael saying something he believed in good faith and an outright porky, like this year? You may know the difference, but you pay more attention and (I presume) have more access to people like Emily to tell you when he's told a porky. I don't foresee any of the mainstream publications changing much in how credence they give to Michaels statements in the future. Not off one year anyway. The game is all a bit different now. Even as recently as the 4th headliner year (was it 2008?) there wasn't the same widescale reporting of every word Michael utters as exists now.But I do guarantee that they'll be less trust in his words from now on in reporting from all over the place ... cos what do you think any half-smart reporter is going to be keeping an eye on? zero000
There does seem to be some consensus as to what years are vintage or not. As a couple of people have mentioned 2010 and 2013 in recent years. It could well be tied in with the weather given all the sun we had in those years, it definitely makes for a nicer festival. frostypaw
Personal or even actual vintage years are very very different to what the general media consider one. That's primarily based on the media coverage and as said that's a bit of a joke and will have been lacklustre this year compared to the general public pleasing headliners of the past few years. Plus the presenters of those films about the 'real' Glastonbury are, ironically, so patronisingly unreal and punchable. patronisinglesspc'
Bradders
Surely this is all subjective. I enjoyed 2014 more than 2013 - so it was more of a 'vintage year' for me Edited July 15, 2014 by Bradders
toppo
I think the festival is miles ahead of the curve look how many stages up and coming artists get to perform on and its not all stuff that's 'on trend' as other festival's seem to veer towards but that's just my humble opinion. Also I'd l8ve to know what constitutes a vintage year as its all subjective

frostypaw
I was watching some coverage on i player and that woman who did the "where do I camp" piece and one covering the tomato fight last year just made me want to punch them both. The only time where I've thought punching a female may be not only my desire, but potentially acquittable by a jury of my peers.

CaledonianGonzo
Dolly's set got the most, in the mid 2-millions the headliners passed without trace, The One Show's special from the Pyramid field did better than all three

KryziF
Ditto, it seemed to me they had spent so much on the stones that the rest of the line up was weaker as a result, this year there just seemed to be quality acts everywhere and was clashtastic.
