Why are people reluctant to vote for the Green party?

I can think of some reasons, but I'm curious what, specifically makes people wary of them. The common answer is because they don't have the experience... who does? and if what we have now is due to them having experience, it doesn't seem to be particularly useful. The Greens seem to be the only progressive option going to me.

Indeed, it has to be the belief that it is a wasted vote.

Their policies are the most socialist of any of the parties and I know alot of people who have been historically "old labour" who now vote for them, but I don't think I know anyone who believes that they are likely to become a significant political force any time soon.

Their UKIP style watershed moment in the 1989 EU elections and the election of Caroline Lucas MP are the highest heights they have reached, I'm sure they will continue to grow in support with the policies they have, but I think it would take decades of such slow building to even get to the kind of support that the libdems have nationally.

the idiots are the ones who think there shouldn't be any more nuclear power stations, eh?

as you say, the jury is out on frackin

but what the heck, let's just carry on until we do find out it's not a good idea

who are the idiots again?

the idiots are the vast majority of the general public in this country. Of course they arent going to vote Green. They are thick and selfish.

We live in one of the richest, most capitalist countries in the world. The UK is pretty much the absolute last place any kind of green/socialist revolution will take place.

I really like the Green policies on lots of things, but I reckon they're idiots regarding energy. I think it's changed now, but they used to be against wind farms along with the tory NIMBYs, and they've always been against wave power due to the impact on birds + fish habitats, despite the fact that every single form of getting energy (yes. inc. solar) harms some sort of natural environment.

Also, I'm a chemist and they hate me.

FPTP plays a large role though.

Because they can't win under the first past the post Westminster system.

In Scotland, the most recent poll I have seen suggests they would get 9 MSP's. All of these would be list members - no constituency members

While i'm a fan of PR, list candidates is where it turns into the same slush as Westminster gives. ;)

When I saw Lucas in the media she was always a cheerleader for David “asset bubbles don’t cause recessions” Blanchflower's ultra loose monetary policies. They're probably pissed at house prices being bidded up to levels they'll never afford.

Ironically the worst thing about the greens is their green policies. I voted for them at the EU elections, but I don't think their energy policies are feasible at all.

We clearly do need more renewable energy being generated, but it's not going to be enough without nuclear energy being on the agenda too.

I vote green even though I'm in a tory safe seat area. I knew it was a wasted vote but among my friends who share similar values, we had the idea that even when the vote comes to nothing, at least the party knows they are progressively gaining popularity. Because of this, the party has actually decided to put more funding into the area in order to try and boost votes in the future.
