ramragon
After seeing the forum dominated by far sale signs it's probably time to get back to the usual banter, namely music, weather, moaning and suggestions on how to smuggle beer in to the arena ! I'm sure after last years ingenious suggestions of bras filled with bags of wine, cans in deck chairs and cans in your undercrackers there must be a few more inventive ideas going round..... Discuss !
eddiepolio
At rockness one year, one of our mates smuggled a wine bag in his pants then when we got into the main arena he whipped the tap out his flies and was giving girls free shots on it. We got loads of pictures at the right angle where it looked like he wash pishing in their mouths!
Comfy Bean
Oh yes. The return of one of my favourite threads. As a disclaimer I like to start off by saying that if the bars offered a wide range of beverages for a fair and competitive price then there would be no need. For example, was over at Marlay Park couple of weeks back and after a while in a long q I was faced with Lager ( Heineken ) wine or red bull. I joke not that was it. Nothing else for sale on the whole site and 6 euros a pop. The biggest festival of them all allows you to take your own booze in ( no glass ) and the bars are always rammed as you cant beat a nice cold pint in the sunshine so why everyone else bothers with the cost of the stewards, searches etc just to protect their " sponsor " is beyond me. We all spend a good few bob in the bars but sneaking a few of our own in is part of the fun in my opinion. 6 miniature vodkas taken into T in the Park last Sunday ( between 2 of us ). 2 in the sock ( at the rear ) then jeans wrapped round and foot into the wellie. The wellies were even squeezed by the fella on the gate. The other one was in the undercrackers. Think that one had went off as i`m sure it had a funny after taste. Small bottle of wine in the pringles tube can work. Hip flasks always have the biggest risk as you could lose it but also offer the biggest win - Use your imagination as there are plenty places it can go. Some would say stuck down into a packet of wipes could work. To any stewards watching - we welcome the challenge
Supermerv
At T a few years ago I took a flexible drinking bottle filled with rum and some string, I tied it in a loop and hung it round my neck and down the front of my (loose) tshirt, worked a treat! Marc Whiffen
I watched this video and did it at Hyde Park for The Libertines, walked right through security and he even squeezed the Bottle. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FmY5uN18SaU
gf1874
For spirits, screw-top Capri Suns under your belt at the front are foolproof, no idea many times I've done it and it just can't be found unless you're wearing Russell Brand's jeans. ramragon
My kids are too old now but for anyone reading who will be taking a buggy, you could make a fortune as the booze mule
Omawr
So how strict are they with searching for beer at the arena? How much will they allow you to take into the campsite?
ramragon
They usually check you over and they'll make you ditch or drink any obvious cans when going into the arena. It depends what rules they're given for taking alcohol into the site, a few years ago it was 1 trip for alcohol only from your car, think they relaxed that a bit last year. You should be ok getting your stuff in unless you've got a stupid amount with you !
andy85
Totally agree with comfortablynumb... Just returned from Truck and you could take your own drink in. Our group did just that but also spent put a load of money behind the bar as its nice to have something cold or different. Reasonable price and a good choice (I was tempted by a cocktail or two at the price you'd usually pay for a festival pint) For smuggling... Its all about pouches. Even the big resealable capri suns work. I wasn't searched for beer at all last year. Here's to hoping its the same again
Pooly JP
Probably a daft question, but never really tried to get anything in previously, can you take unopened soft drinks into the arena?
neato
I've never tried it at Kendal but jacket/hoodie tied around waist with cans in the sleeves has worked elsewhere in the past.
thegirlwhowantedtobegod
I put a litre bottle full of wine in the front pocket of my hoodie, tied the hoodie around my waist and walked straight through last year... Hope to do the same again this year...
Comfy Bean
Probably a daft question, but never really tried to get anything in previously, can you take unopened soft drinks into the arena? I know this sounds crazy but I`m not sure you can. Someone else may be able to confirm ? Another annoying development ( to be clear I don`t know if this will happen at KC ) but at a couple of fests I`ve been at this year, the vans or bars will NOT give you the top on your bottle of coke / fanta / sprite ? They open it in front of you then bin the lid !?! Note to self : bring spare lids.
thurlow84
Ive took unopen bottles of coke into the arena at kendal calling before.....wasnt clever enough to smuggle booze in
arabicaknight
Don't know what you are all on about! Isn't KC about temperance and sobriety? Someone said a while back about a fool proof method o smugglin' the goods in. DRINK IT THEN WALK THROUGH (Sorry boys and girls, just sayin)
MistahParker
Been searched thoroughly everywhere I've been apart from T in the park where they just didn't seem to care at all, I don't usually try as long as there's a decent cider and it's not daft prices (<£5). The one time I did try though was the Capri sun in each welly and didn't get caught. I've heard playing dumb sometimes works where you stuff the backs of your socks with vodka, walk holding a couple of cans, then when they take them off you say "oh I didn't realise you couldn't bring it in" then they don't bother searching you, never tried it mind.
