Comfy Bean
Thursday night : Nice mingle with the efesters - good to meet a few of you, then Craig Charles. Didn`t see the whole set but the tent was rammed as expected and he was playing some quality tunes. Could have done with a bit more volume but to be fair I was right at the back. Think he would have more than payed his way with the number of people who came early to see him and paid the extra tenner. Friday : De La Soul - 50 minutes late ??? What the feck is that all about. I was wet and standing in mud and was not impressed with them blaming traffic !!!! I`m not 100% sure on this but were the first words spoken " You OK Lendl " ? I laughed and them muttered the C word. Watched the first 2 songs then went to watch the excellent Catfish set. De La Soul also pulled out of a festival up my way pretty last minute for " family reasons " and were replaced by the brilliant King Charles. We all know that they are in it for the final pay cheque but atleast pretend you are interested ! Suede were really good I thought but went a bit flat ( almost boring ) in the middle. Did they lose time because of De La Soul ? Saturday`s highlight for me was the Showhawk Duo. Talented blokes great singalong. Was it the Heavy that were on the main stage about 1pm ? They were excellent in the crap weather. Watched the Happy Mondays who I thought were much improved on the last time I saw them but we got really soaked and I must admit it was a bit of a struggle. Got battered into the rum and then after watching Franks first song went to 2manydjs. Absolutely brilliant. Tent packed ( had to sneak in the exit door) and really good atmosphere. They did what utah saints did at Wickerman the Saturday before. KC should book Utah Saints for this slot next year. Sunday we watched Simon and Oscar. Great stuff. Sounded great but he looked worse than me !!! Thought they were going to stop at one point as he was clearly ill. Great effort to get through to the end. Enjoyed the real big fish in between some time down at the brilliant kids area and then watched Clean Bandit. Was one of the singers missing ? Thought they were pretty good and were the one band across the whole weekend who seemed to have the volume turned right up. I could feel the bass coming up through the mud and bouncing back at me off the trees. Watched Davos who was ok and played alot of tunes that brought back alot of good memories. Good laugh in the tent with the big dinosaur being chucked about but an hour was more than enough. Good luck to the fella but felt a bit like a novelty act. Liked the Dub Pistols but can`t remember what day and saw a whole load of bands and DJ`s in Chi Wallahs who I liked. Spent a lot of time in there because of the weather and the kids liked the pizzas. Best non music thing that happened was my curry at Gandhis flip flop. £8 for a full meal with rice and bread. Had a blether with the fella while I was waiting and asked him why they weren`t at T in the park this year. He explained that it was always a big money maker but they got fed up with people saying " what do you mean you huvnae got any f*ckin chicken " Worst was having to bury my tent after 6 summers of service
