AnnaChev
Would you opinion of someone change if they told you they used Heroin at 19 for a year before getting clean. Said person finished their degree and now has a pretty good job and prospects. Would said person be a heroine? Or someone you would be wary to trust? jump
I'd give them kudos for kicking the habit (if they were an addict) but I wouldn't call them a hero.
atomised
I think heroine would be a bit extreme but certainly deserves respect for kicking the habit and everyone deserves a chance to turn their lives around
mrtourette
I guess such a person would be an inspiration and possibly a hero/heroine to someone else trying to kick a habit, but otherwise would just get respect or kudos as others have said.As for the second part I certainly wouldn't be wary of trusting an ex-addict based purely on that information. mrtourette
That's not too surprising, I suppose drug adicts only come below foreigners and homosexuals when considering the great drains on our once proud nation.

I'd be glad for them if they were off smack if it was problematic for them, but other than that I couldn't care less one way or another. At lot of my friends went through dodgy phases. Hell, I don't think a year of gear even counts as a phase.
russycarps
loads of people have tried heroin these days. It's nothing to get worked up about.
t8yman
wouldnt bother me tbh. but hero/heroine is stretching it a bit, unless they were going into some line of work where they were working with recovering addicts.

mrpman
I wouldn't put too much thought into it. A year is not a very long time, and I know Solicitors who did the same thing! Why would it come up though? For a prospective or current new partner, that's a big thing to admit to, so fair play to them, especially if it's in early days. If it's for a job or something, a strange thing to admit to.
AnnaChev
Yeah heroin is pretty cool until you lose your looks or stop paying the bills. So I guest as long as it has not messed up you or your life who really cares right? In fact it's rather romantic to have taken the risk chasing the dragon to then come out the other end of it don't you think? It's like putting youselve in the worst position and just brezzing though something that so many others end up consumed by. Not all addicts are uneducated down and outters. So screw what people think anyway.
Guest
Heroin isn't cool. Like any drug (including alcohol), some people can take it regularly and manage a so called normal life, others can't. It's part of the journey, finding out what ruins your life and what doesn't, and what enhances it and what doesn't. mrtourette
I always struggle to understand why any form of drug use is romanticized. I guess it's to do with wanting to buck the system, I suppose I thought I was cool back in my teenage years but then I grew up.

Katster
I was (and still am) concerned about two friends when finding out they had used heroin. One only (only?) smoked it, whilst the other injected. And one really worrying thing was discovering the injecting one had driven me in his car whilst under the influence and naive little me had thought he was severely jet lagged :-/ Each to their own and all that but they were both well aware I wouldn't have knowingly got in the car with them and spent a day in their company if I'd have been aware at the time! Around six months later the smoking one admitted/confessed and agreed it was a stupid/crazy/messed up time in his and the other friends life. As far as I am aware the smoking one has since steered clear of it but the injecting one is still living some messed up life enjoying opiates in South Africa. I will most probably never see him again and I ain't too fussed as we weren't all that close anyway but last time I saw him, wow, he looked like shit and I worry that if ever he loses his extremely well paid job his life will very quickly spiral even further out if control. His life though. I see no romance or cool in any part of my story.
Guest
There are some drugs that may considered "cool". Heroin is definitely not one of them. Anyone who takes any drugs because they think they're cool should think long and hard about why they are taking them. But then, doing anything because you think it's cool is usually a bit fucked up

Most do but people also do it to have a "cool/romantic" image I, know a guy who tried heroin soley as a girl he fancied was doing it.
