Weather?

Anyone got any insight into what is forecast for the weather this year?

I'll already be packing for the cool - it can get chilly at Eotr - but am I going to get wet??

Sunshine and showers all weekend is what the Met's been saying for a week or so.

Funny, given the time of year and the fact it's a British festival I don't recall many properly wet EOTRs. One year there was a torrential storm on Friday late afternoon that churned the whole ground up for the rest of the festival, but just the odd shower beyond that.

Looks like being a rare damp one. Even if it's only the odd shower over the weekend, think it may be quite soggy - it's been quite heavy rain here in Salisbury at times today and there's some rain forecast every day this week.

Had rain most of the day on Bank Holiday Monday here in Blandford, its been raining again this morning and forecast for the area is for showery spells most of the week, but possibly getting warmer as the week goes on.

Pinning my hopes on the fact that the weather has usually turned out nicer on site than forecasted...

seems to be the case that it'll be muddy and soggy, but with little actual rain. most reports i've read say it'll shower friday, but then be dry from then on. regardless, the floor will still be damp and the air moist.

solid shoes and a rain jacket is all ya need!

I've never been to EOTR before- from what people who have been before know of the ground, do they think wellies will be needed? It's just that they are a pain to carry on public transport, and if I can get away with not taking them that would help.

On the rare occasion it's rained at EOTR the ground really has cut up, so I would say that wellies or walking boots will be needed.

2008 it was quite wet and by the end of 2012 - but generally EOTR has been lucky with the weather. You'd get by in walking boots if you don't mind a bit of pussy footing around the edge of tracks etc. Sometimes the entrances from the campsite get quite squidgy (ie where you show wristbands).

It rained quite a lot when Iron and Wine played in 2010, can remember getting wet but sticking it out as he was so good. It definitely rained when Woods played on The Woods stage in 2012 as well. Neither year was particularly awful but I think wellies is definitely not a terrible idea. Can get quite boggy as pointed out around the main throughfares. The campsite can be pretty bad too, particularly where there are water pipes/troughs. You can get your shoe sucked off whilst brushing your teeth if you're not careful.

That said, they do put matting down (at least in around the Garden stage) which helps a lot, and with it raining so early in the week this year it might give them a chance to prepare ahead.

At least if the ground has softened up a bit with the rain there won't be so many bent tent pegs trying to get them into rock hard ground.

That bloody pebbly ground is a source of frustration every year. This year, I have the answer - special hard ground tent pegs which are like 9 inch nails!

Luckily, because the site is high up and on a hill, any water soon drains off and runs down into the family camping area.

BBC has it as 4 days of cloud, with fair bit a bit of wind and some sunny spells. I'll take that.

Would be delighted with that. Just enjoyed 4 days pre-EOTR in Wincanton Travelodge with persistent drizzle (but good beer).

No idea what we're looking forward to most, though Arc Iris are highly commended.

For anybody not on Twitter, EotR have tweeted this morning 'WELLIES ESSENTIAL'. Ground very wet, though forecast is now pretty good.
