Last time I saw him play was the bloody MEN arena, looks like that was one of his last shows in a long while, couple of other UK dates after and then nothing until this. Other Stage headliner may well be it, or perhaps John Peel? Arena act in 2012, but how will the absence have affected him?

His Latitude headline set was astonishing, but neither then or at the arena did it feel like watching a "big" act, it was really weird how popular he was then. I think it's because at both gigs, the sort of person I saw was always the standard gig nerd type I see at smaller and mid-level gigs, just loads more of them. I still tend to think of him as being a niche type act, even though he's clearly quite mainstream, I don't know how he managed that.

This exchange has prompted me to listen to him for the first time in ages. Fucking excellent isn't he?

Father John Misty - Great new album and playing in Ireland on the 27th

I adore Father John Misty. His "debut album" a couple of years ago was an incredible reinvention for J. Tillman. I love how this new album has generated such a buzz and an overwhelming amount of positive reviews across the board. How he has unleashed this run of wonderfully melodic songcraft, after years of hushed, difficult to penetrate acoustic songs is nothing short of astonishing.

Imagine John Grant, Rufus Wainwright, Fleet Foxes and early Elton John all mixed in together and you get the idea. He is a funny dude too.

I heard a horrible rumour that Green Man may have him on an exclusive though.

With all the publicity of the new album and a big push on his career as Father John Misty, I'd have thought he'd want to spread it about as much as possible, so I don't reckon he'll be exclusive anywhere - I'd not have thought he was 'big' enough to explore that, really...which makes Courtney Barnett all the more odd...and a shame, as I'd love to have seen her at The Park at GF2015.
