Three Peaks Challenge - for charideeee

Hi guys,

Long time lurker to these forums, thanks for many years of entertainment and information!

Some friends and I have been foolish enough to decide to brave the driving wind and rain next week and tackle the national 3 peaks challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. We're looking to spread the word and I was wondering if you guys could help?

I'm not looking for donations (although they're always welcome), but if those of you on twitter could follow/retweet/favourite, we'd be much obliged and you'd be helping a great cause.

The twitter is **REMOVED**

And if anyone wants to find out why I'm doing it, or donate, then **REMOVED**

Thanks for reading, and if anyone has done it and has any tips, we'd be really grateful for those too!!

Well that definitely seems fair.

I mean, its not at all unreasonable that you imply that someone more established as a poster would be able to "beg for money".

Nor that you've overlooked me explicitly stating I'm not looking for donations.

Nor that you've taken down a link to a twitter account aimed at raising a bit of buzz about a charity event for macmillan.

No, no. Carry on.

You've done a good thing there Neil.

Not got a usual username, friend, like I said, long time lurker. And as a user of these forums myself, I think it was a heavy handed thing to do. Not sure what is being protected against? Being bothered by charity? I thought people here were a bit more liberal than to censor that kind of thing..

If people didn't want to click, they simply don't have to.

I don't really care about the charity (my Mum died of cancer 2 years ago incase I'm called heartless) or the argument of if it should be allowed but imo I think there's a difference between a user and a contributor to the forums, you get the thousands of people who come here just to look at the rumour line ups who are users and the other people who have made home on here bantering, arguing and generally talk shit which keeps the forums alive.

All of the same attitudes could apply for any spammer.

If someone is wanting promotion for something when they are not already a contributor here, they're considered a spammer.

Yet you were treated in a less heavy handed way than a spammer, because your account wasn't marked as a spammer and neither was your post removed.

Your post is still promoting the cancer cause, but it's no longer promoting you. I feel that's a fair middle ground.
