That does sound terrible (and weird).  At first when you said you didn't have ID and your mate had 'findable' bombs then I thought you kinda have yourselves to blame but actually that is very poor behaviour from the bouncers.

I went to four tet and bonobo this year (first visits to WHP) and found the staff, venue, everything was great (though oversold).  Bouncer even found an empty baggie in my pocket on entry but didn't say a word, whereas the jobsworth type wouldn't have liked it.

I havent been for 4 years, no need for it previously. At 32 I didnt think Id need ID tbh.

On speaking to my mate, it was a sniffer dog that found them. He gave them up, went back to the dog. It could still smell. He said "it must be from what was there before" (He genuinely had nothing else) and they refused him entry. That I cant argue with.

Me and a couple of friends got tickets for the Four Tet night. Upon handing over my ID on entry, I had a good 5 minutes of questioning 'Where you from?' 'Postcode?' 'Why are you here?' etc. One of the lads who I was with was stopped by a bouncer who said 'The dogs took an interest in you, turn over what you have on you, and we will let you in, if you refuse we will strip search you and you'll be handed to the police' At which point my mate replied that he didn't have anything on him and he'd happily be searched (he had nothing), and the bouncers outright refused and threw him out! I didn't think much of Four Tet, but did enjoy Ben UFO, Leon Vynehall and The Black Madonna. But the highlight for me had to be Nina!

But, on a whole, I'd never go back. Heard so many similar stories about this place.

That's really disappointing @FuzzyDunlop sorry to hear that.

We're heading down in a few weeks for the Bicep night, my hope is that it's quite a big line up, so it should be evenly spread across both rooms, so i'm hoping over crowding doesn't become a problem. As for the bouncers, i know a few people who have been this year and haven't had anything horrendous to say about it, hopefully this was just a one off night, because that would seriously ruin the experience.

When I went to WHP about 3 years ago we had similar issues on the door, we had a mixed group of 15 or so, when they found out a load of people had travelled up from Hampshire they started kicking off, asking us why we were there, asking our jobs and travel plans etc. The dog had shown an interest in me and they did the same chat about giving up what I had, I had nothing on me so told them to search me, they then backed down and I was able to go in. Once I was inside the staff weren't too bad, I think I went quite soon after they had the deaths so the increased security was expected, the attitude of the door staff was so bad though that I decided that I wouldn't ever go back.

Those stories are ridiculous. I imagine they're trying their hardest not to find themselves in a Fabric situation, which is fair enough but extremely depressing.

I have tickets for Mosaic WHP at the end of the month. Not booked accommodation yet but having to look outside of the city as there's nothing available. So many events on that night. After hearing so many horror stories though I'm not sure if I can be bothered with all the effort, already had one mate pull out.

Then again, techno.

I went for Mastermix and had an incredible night. Security were a breeze

I think it just so subjective.

I wonder if this over the top security is a backlash from the Fabric situation? I've been to WHP a bunch of times and can't say I've ever had a problem personally but I know people that have. I will say though, that I much prefer WHP at Victoria Warehouse over Store Street, for security reasons and in general

Way OTT is an understatement...

Following on from my previous post:

After 4 of 5 of us getting in, the other went to meet some others. We mooched about, the sound was good near the front, awful anywhere else.

Room 2 was better - stayed there... at 10 ish, bouncers turned up with torches. Grabbing people, doing random on the spot searches. Shining lights in womens handbags etc. I saw 5/6 more thrown out.

I was grabbed by a bouncer, who found nothing. Started asking me "Whats your name? where do you live? What do ypu do for a job? Where is it? How do ypu get there from here?" - Fuck me, this isn't stewarding.

We Carried on for about 40 more mins. Saw more of the same going on.

I left room 2 (which was busy at the front, quiet near the back) and went to the toilet. When trying to get back in the room, at the top entrance - so I knew it was quiet...

"No - its full".

"Sorry? It isn't"

"If you dont go away I will throw you out"

At this point more people try to get in, all told no. Then a big bouncer turns up and starts shouting "EVERYONE MOVE... EVERYONE MOOOOOOVE" and pushes a few back. Way ott.

Someone else is thrown out.

All my mates are in room 2. They come out after 10 mins or so as I text one. As they come out we see someone else being led out.

We decided at that point to "fuck it off as a bad un before one of us gets arrested"

We left at about 11 went to a mates and just got smashed.

Never had an experience like it, and never again will I go to the WHP.

I said never again after the New Order gig last year. I hate WHP, its not good for diversity in nightlife. It seems to have a strangle hold on all the acts.

Re the ID, I fully get where you're coming from. I'm 6 ft 5 and am 26, there's nobody in the world who'd think I was under 18 or 21. Nowadays the purpose of the ID is so they have your details in case you cause any trouble though, rather than to prove your age.

I always thought sniffer dogs were a myth too, more a deterrent than actually effective and looking at some of the stories on here... people getting caught by the dogs when they actually had nothing on them.  I remember storing mine in my pants when I went into a club at uni, turned around right into a sniffer dog so the poor thing's nose was in my crotch for a second, he didn't react in the slightest!

i assume that WHP have drastically moved forward their last entry times to try and avoid people coming a bit later and bombing down their drugs just as they get to the door.

if you have to be in by 9 you seriously question whether you are going to do that so early in the night and it makes you think twice about whether you're going to try and get them in or not.

I get searched everytime usually.

The bonobo/jon hopkins night was the first night i went just drinking, as i got past the dog i was a bit drunk already so marched straight up to the main security guy with my arms wide open and went 'search me, you do every other bloody time'. he just laughed and wave me in.

Literally the only time i'd not been searched on entry and I really should have

Actually that's a good point: how big are Soulwax, actually?

Didn't they headline the tent at Reading & Leeds one year as 2manydjs?

i think they were just closing the tent, im sure(but dont quote me) The Streets were the real headliner, and 2manydjs just came on after to finish proceedings

I somehow can't envision them playing anywhere that's not in the evening, but i've really not got a fucking clue
