If you compare these festivals based on price and how long they last for then PKP definitely does look expensive. There's obviously a lot more to it than that though, particularly when some of them are in different countries, so it makes it very difficult to compare one against another.

Ultimately though, it comes down to what your personal tastes are and whether you feel a certain festival is value for money. Will be interesting to see how ticket sales go and whether people think the PKP line up and overall experience are worthy of the price increase.

Well I believe that Pukkelpop will sell a lot of tickets for sure. Not sure if they sell out this year, but let's wait for the next announcement. Sincerely I'd have come back if I hadn't gone to Primavera Sound. But I care about the lineup not too much. Names are important but I'm looking for the festival's good mood. Festival is a vacation not just concerts to me. That's why I'm going back to Sziget for the 7th time in a row.

Paolo Nutini for Lowlands. If Bastille are big enough to headline then he's got to be there or there abouts. Not a big fan myself but I know some of the friends I go with would love to see him there.

It the headliners are Linkin Park - Bastille - Paolo Nutini would be the most awful set of headliners I've ever seen in a Festival.

With Blur, Metallica, Kasabian, Muse, Chemical Brothers or Robbie Williams in the august european circuit would be unforgivable not to get a big name for the 30st aniversary. No other big european festivals during the weeklend (only Frequency and Lowlands plus some medium rock festivals), no free drinkin tickets... What's the excuse for Mr. Eppo and Mr. Chokri? I'm really angry with this situation...

Blur is not touring in august, Kasabian is not a headliner in Belgium at all, Muse & Chemical Brothers are important bookings of Rock Werchter and Robbie Williams is not relevant for this youth festival.

Why this bands are not relevant but Neil Young, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Roses, Iron Maiden or Bjork were relevants in the last years for this "youth festival"? Who said that Blur won't be avaliable in August (they are european)? Why Bastille is a headliner in Belgium but Kasabian isn't?

1. Who said that Blur won't be avaliable in August (they are european)?

2. Why Bastille is a headliner in Belgium but Kasabian isn't?

1. All august festivals are lacking headliners but none of them booked Blur -> not available.

2. because they are selling more tickets and general popularity among youngsters is so much higher.

And Limp Bizkit, Offspring and Linkin Park are?

Utter nonsense.

1. & 2. not even close in $ to book in comparison to Robbie Williams, Metallica and no headlining acts. Also representing the punk sector of the festival, established since the beginning of the festival.

3. Yes. Check your facts. If you like them or not (I hate them) shouldn't be considered.

4. No.

Bastille last year were 4th down in Werchter Main Stage, do you think that Kasabian will get a worse slot this year in RW? Don't believe your theory that Bastille is a headliner in Belgium but Kasabian isn't. For example in Spain, last year Kasabian headlined FIB and this year Bastille are just fillers in FIB line-up. Maybe none of them are headliners in Belgium, but I'm sure that Kasabian will get a better spot in Rock Werchter than Bastille got last year, so they are more relevant for festival crowd.

Bastille got a worse slot last year than Franz Ferdinand in Rock Werchter, and FF didn't headline Pukkelpop two years ago. The ecuation is simple.

I think we're all agreed that Bastille is not headline material. Even the band themselves must be surprised. I'm sincerely hoping that the organisers will have picked up on the feelings of the festival goers (particularly after the price increase) and stick a strong co-headliner on the same day. That said, with Ellie Goulding, Bastille and Major Lazer they're quite clearly aiming that day in particular at the 'youth'

Failing a strong co-headliner/Sub they'd better put someone ace on in the Marquee on the Friday.

1. The difference a year makes. Alt-J, Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood...a year later it's not the same band in terms of popularity.

2. FIB is a festival for brits made by brits in a summer holiday location. Taste and positions are 100% from a british point of view. Pukkelpop is completely different, see, Editors. UK band not even close to headlining at home. But in Belgium...Kasabian is the other way round.

I don't personally feel any of those three are headliner material on their own but as a package they just about carry enough weight. I've no doubt though that they'll all play to big crowds so in that sense it's job done for the promoters. Those of you who were there in 2012 said the crowd for The Stone Roses was quite small yet we probably all consider them to be more worthy of the title 'headliner' than Bastille. However if I was a betting man I'd put money on Bastille getting a bigger crowd than the Roses did. Look at the turn out for Major Lazer in 2013 when they filled in for Neil Young - if they get anything like that number again then it can only be classed as a success. My favourite ever performance at PKP was Kraftwerk in 2009 but there were probably only 15,000 people at the Main. Ellie, Bastille and ML will all each get a much bigger crowd than that. I'm not saying I'm particularly happy about any of this but if I put my personal tastes to one side (which is what the promoters have to do to a certain extent) then it comes down to what they think/hope will be popular with the paying public. Perhaps they have misjudged it this year but we'll have to wait until possibly August to know for sure.

I think the point Jimmyjimmy made a few pages back was spot on - the festival aren't really aiming the line up at people like us, at least not this year anyway. The question you then have to ask yourself is 'are there enough bands on the bill to make me want to go?' In that respect, I guess it's no different to every other year really.

To add to Semprini's point, I saw The Stone Roses at Optimus Alive! in Portugal in 2012. The crowd was very small, from talking to some people the next day it seems that LMFAO had a comparable crowd at the second stage. Ask me before, during or after and I would say The Stone Roses are the bigger draw (but I'm obviously wrong).

also looks abit like the last day of the cancelled year.....bunch of non headliner bands grouped together

who was it?

Duck Sauce, Deus, Kasabian, Offspring, ...or something like that all were in the same font

The difference is that the other 2 days of that edition had 2 massive headliners (Eninem and Foo Fighters), so it was logical booking several big non headliner bands for the 3rd day

don't like them but linkin park are still pretty huge ...still sell out arenas etc and their albums sell a tonne

its not like its Avengend Sevenfold etc headlining along with Bastille

and who knows who the third headliner could be ....still a few big festivals waiting for who I can only imagine is the same band

I think we settled on Bastille headlining. With the running order being Goulding, Bastille, Major Lazer. Can't really see it working out any other way I'm afraid.

Just swerve Bastille then reconvene for Major Lazer, pretending all the while that they are actually the headline act. Voilà!

The only way I could see any positive difference in the above is if they put someone on in between Ellie Goulding and Bastille.

But Ellie Goulding is one of the reasons why I see Bastille as the only possible headliner of that day. Several nr 1 hits + quickly sold out arena show in Belgium, surely she's not going to get the same spot as Jake Bugg and Janelle Monae last year?
