Pukkelpop 2015

Looking at the line-up with these new additions... It's got quite a decent middle/undercard, just not a lot of big acts to catch your attention.

The new bands contain some cool ones though, Chvrches are good, Dorian Concept as well. Shamir sounds very poppy and catchy. Madeon is a great dance addition, and Portico would be a must-see if we decide to go after all. Still a bit up in the air though.

Seems to be a lack of evidence that the Run The Jewels tour has been cancelled. Heavily debated over on the Glastonbury forum, with only Pukkelpop reporting the cancellation thus far.

I'm sure when I read the article earlier today it said European tour cancelled, now it just says cancellation for Pukkelpop.

Yeah, the organisers have gotten some criticism for that 'European tour cancelled' statement. The Woohah Festival in the Netherlands (which have RTJ headlining) hit out at PKP after some people considered selling their Woohah tickets.

So, they've cancelled Pukkelpop but not the other shows then?

Is it me, or does Pukkelpop suffer a disproportionate number of cancellations? The cancellations aren't necessarily their fault (Neil Young, Slayer) but they seen to lose more than most.

I guess it's just the downside of having like 200 acts on your lineup. Most of the major festivals are confronted with cancellations every year, so I can imagine it's worse if you have 2-3 times as many noteworthy acts on your timetable.

But Run The Jewels just tweeted that being announced for Pukkelpop 'was a mistake'. I don't know what happened there, but I have the feeling that Pukkelpop is fucking up in so many ways this year :/

Seriously? Think the bookers need a kick in the arse this year. Bastille aren't a headliner, missing Saturday headliner, announcing bands they've not booked. Credit where due though, happy with lots of the undercard.

Checked out the NOS alive line up, very good. Especially for the price.

Just one question: once that we know 70% of the line-up (+15% of belgian acts TBA), can somebody explain me why Pukkelpop is a 200€ festival this year? The rest of european festivals have similar prices than last year, and they are also payed in euros... How can they justify a 10% increase? I don't understand it if I analize the line-up.

I keep asking this myself. Unless they've got someone massive lined up (Cold play, U2, RHCP etc), there is no justification. Yes, there's 200+ bands but as we keep saying, its a piss poor line up so far.

I've never understood why so many bands cancel PKP each year. What makes it worse is that they'll often just pull out of this and then play other dates on the same weekend or the one before/after - Slayer and The Courteeners are both guilty of this. I get that with more bands on the bill the likelihood of some canceling increases but you very rarely see anyone pull out of Reading/Leeds, or any of the other UK festivals for that matter. Not sure what's gone on with this whole Run the Jewels debacle but it doesn't look good from a PR perspective.

Won't be getting my ticket tomorrow as need to finalise a couple of things before I commit. Don't think there's any danger of it selling out too quickly though! Having said that, wouldn't be surprised if Thursday goes quite fast - lot of people getting very excited on social media about Linkin Park.

Sounds like we may well be on our own this year

No chance of that! S&S will be getting their tickets today and I'm confident I will be able to get everything in place as well. Got a big project going on with the house this summer, which I'm hoping to finalise all the details for in the next week. Once I know where I stand with that I should be able to book flights and then sort out tickets in a month or so.

I've bought tickets, like to plan ahead and give that the flight is booked and accommodation too, thought I might as well get the tickets whilst it was in the forefront of my ming.

Price wise, I suppose it's about £50/day which for me is good value. Gig tickets over here run £20+ for even a mid-tier band (e.g. Bluetones "comeback" show is, I think, £25 and Bjork at Manchester International Festival is £45) so with the names already on I see value in the Combi, though I cannot disagree with anyone over the weakness on Saturday.

I think they must have a real headliner for Saturday, or are at least trying to find one.

Forefront of where?! Lol

Confused. Are you saying the Saturday is a weak day?

Think it's more the fact that we still don't know the headliner for Saturday and with tickets on sale right now, there really should be an announcement of sorts soon. I mean as somebody mentioned earlier, LP are a big band and so are a decent headliner, Bastille - I don't think so, so Saturday must either be huge or just piss poor mediocre and that's why they haven't announced it. In the hopes that people are believing "Saturday will be massive so best buy my ticket now" when in truth it might just be some second tier band. But I hope I am wrong :)

I don't think they'd hold it back on purpose, I can imagine that high ticket prices and the lack of a headliner is actually slowing sales down + it can't really get worse than Bastille, can it?

I’m another one holding off buying a Combi ticket. Not so much for the missing Saturday headliner as I think Saturday’s strong even without a name, but more for the line ups on the first 2 days, in particular the Friday. When you look at the strength of the line up for say, Rock en Seine, it’s miles better and miles cheaper. At the moment I can see me wandering around the PP field feeling a bit done over. That said I do love coming to PP and all is not lost. They could still turn it around but from their past form and with most of the slots already being filled it’s looking less likely. They can’t fail to have noticed the negative feedback, especially surrounding Bastille. Hopefully slow ticket sales will kick them into gear and make them get the chequebook out.

Having mentioned NOS Alive earlier, thought I'd share their first night lineup by way of comparison:

Main Stage

Muse

Alt-J

Been Harper

James Bay

Wombats

"Other" Stage

Metronomy

Django x2

Jessie Ware

Flume

Young Fathers

I think it's exceptionally strong, but they really only have 3 stages and overall lack the strength in depth of PKP.
