New Deerhunter fuck yeah. Let's hope it's a return to form. Already seeing them at P4K Paris but tempted by the SBE gig, especially with Atlas Sound as support...

Also love the sound of a solely Cox/Pundt track. They played a 'TBA' slot at their ATP with half of Tom Tom Club which was just a 40-odd minute jam session... hope it's along those lines.

Song of the day - Wakefield??  That stage diving lady must have made an impact!

I was sceptical going into listening to The Weeknd's new album but he's pulled it off brilliant. That 6 track run from Tell Your Friends to Shameless is superb.

you think? i'm really unsure of it. there's a few good songs (Can't Feel My Face still hasn't got old for me - so good) but a lot of it just seems to go by without anything of note happening. also a shame that Earned It is on there. i know it was a huge hit for him, but it really has no place on this album. In The Night is also another absolute banger

Yeah. I thought it'd be too popp and mainstream. It is mainstream compared to his older stuff but the old Weeknd is still in the album. He'll never totally go back to the House of Balloons/Thursday/Echoes of Silence material although that stuff is classic and still my favourite work from him. I couldn't quite get into Kiss Land so I need to revisit this. BBTM is more accessible if a bit toned down for him but I think this is the way he wanted to go.

I would say Battles, since they have a new album out soon and their 2008 Park performance was the greatest gig I've ever witnessed.

But... :(

Their second album didn't do it for me. With losing that member, they seemed to lose something very special from their songs. Ice Cream was a belter, but the rest of Gloss Drop was just a bit of a drudge. Despite still doing a lot of the same tricks with rhythm and blurring of the lines between live and sequenced/loop based music, the pleasure just isn't there compared to Mirrored.

I'll still listen to the new album and I'll still go and see them if they play and there's no big clash, but I don't have high hopes. I loved that debut album so much, they're just not the same band now.

New album gets a great review in Mojo, who note the weakness of the second album and say this is the glorious album we all hoped they'd make. Fingers crossed.
