haven't heard the new one myself yet! must get round to it. reviews of the new album are positive without being overly so - general consensus seems to be that it isn't as good as the first

Their newest one, Clearest Blue, is their best song yet IMO. Haven't read the reviews yet but if the rest of the album is like the singles I'll probably prefer it to Bones.

Clearest Blue is good, but i don't think it stands up to the best on Bones (The Mother We Share, We Sink, Night Sky, By The Throat). i like all of the new material i've heard but it all could've slotted in anywhere on Bones - hoping for something a bit different on the rest of the album (although i love Bones so much that Bones pt.2 would probably be fine by me as well)

I keep meaning to listen to Deerhunter, everybody who likes good bands seems well into them. Mind you, this was the thought process that lead me to listen to The National and Interpol, found them both acceptable but dull.

I don't know that Deerhunter will be up your street tbh. Maybe I'm wrong but worth trying man! If you like stuff like Beach House and Panda Bear though, DH are definitely worth a try. I guess most people would start with Halcyon Digest but that's very isolated in its sound within the DH discography. Very accessible however. I'd say Microcastle is probably the best starting place - it's probably the record that can be best linked to all the rest. They're really fucking excellent though, and Bradford Cox is an incredible lyricist.

The order I'd suggest listening to, for newcomers: Microcastle, Halcyon Digest, Crytograms... If you're still with it then there's loads to explore.

I'm a floating voter when it comes to Panda Bear and Beach House, too, my indie points are dropping rapidly this evening! Thanks for the guide, though, I might dip a toe in if this weekend's quiet.

New Grimes album dropping at some point next month. It sounds suitably off the wall:

"There’s a song that’s from the perspective of a butterfly in the Amazon as people are cutting down trees; there’s a song that’s from the perspective of angels who are polluted, so they’re crying polluted tears. I feel like it’s more about the Earth. I think I was more in society when I was making it, so it feels more grounded.”

Totally loving the Miley record, had it on alternate with the new Titus Andronicus release. Haven't listened to them since The Monitor, the release of Local Business somehow passed me by, will be rectifying that today.

Been out of the loop really since Glastonbury so have a couple months of releases to catch up on. Helped immensely by this thread - Thanks all for the stellar suggestions.

Off to Spain again Sunday so currently filling up my ipod with all these goodies which I will share with my friends while I'm there.

Is there a decent fan edit or suggested pared down running order for that +@ album?

I just don't have the minerals to chew my way through it again (probably not helped by the version I had being one long 90 minute track).

It's split up into five acts and two disks for you. Listen to it in chunks if you don't like going all the way through. But the way the album's put together means that cutting it down just won't work. Dunno why you'd want to cut down the album of the year, anyway.

New Chvrches streaming! Looking forward to listening to this.

it's good, although the choruses don't seem nearly as catchy/urgent as on the first album, and most of it could've easily slotted in to anywhere on that album (although i guess that's one of the downfalls about having an instantly recognisable sound). reckon it'll be a grower, but it's instantly apparent that it's not as good as the first imo

Personally I think it's about on par with the first one so far. Like you said the choruses aren't as catchy but I think a lot of it it packs more of a punch. They're sure to smash their inevitable Other Stage slot next year.
