Can't pass by without a very honourable mention for Spillers in Cardiff.

Said to be the oldest record shop in the world, opened by Henry Spiller in 1894.

I remember the days when you used to be able to buy Glastonbury tickets from independent record shops. It used to be Glasto policy to sell through such shops to support the independent record shop business.

Happy nights spent camping in a queue outside Spillers to be in line to get a ticket as soon as they opened.

I remember buying Reading tickets in Spillers in '95 and '96

Thanks for all the input so far, coming along nicely....Once there is enough, I'll compile the full list on here for everyone to have/see.

My local record shop, Sundown records (closed down sadly) used to sell gig tickets (and coach travel)too..the only way i could get to see any bands at the time..Remember seeing New Order with The Happy Mondays as support at the NEC back in the day via my local RS.

I used to have a Saturday job in Jumbos - 20/30 years back. Is it still there in the Merrion Centre?

In fact - given that - is the Merrion Centre still there?

Sorry foe delay in responding. I've been in Leeds since 96 and it was (and still is) in the St. Johns Centre- so not sure if it was somewhere else previously.

The Merrion Centre is still there- though Leeds city centre has had and still is having quite a revamp at the moment.

Cheers Dondo - I was there a few years before that but for the life of me I can't remember now which one was the St. John's centre and which was the Merrion. What I do know is that this conversation whilst being fascinating to me is of no absolutely no interest and will mean nothing to anyone who doesn't know or is from Leeds. And whilst this is a tragedy for those thus afflicted - I'll shut up now.

The St John's centre is on the Headrow and the Merrion Centre is the one behind it.

Happy to answer any other Leeds related questions if desired!

Was in Jumbo today and they had pictures of their previous shops which did include the Merrion Centre.

Also went into Crash for 1st time in years and they've got a 2nd hand section downstairs now

Cheers Dondo maybe my dementia isn't as bad as I thought. There used to be an indoor market in the Merrion as well. There was a great second hand record place in there Edited by Ted Dansons Wig
