James Blunt

Looks like some satirical comedian has stolen James Blunt's identity, and written this spoof letter, making him look like a completely massive helmet.

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jan/19/james-blunts-letter-chris-bryant-in-full

Or, could it possibly be, that James Blunt is so staggeringly un-self aware that he genuinely believes this shit, and isn't afraid to publicly say it? I don't buy it, the most perfect response that somebody can hope for when calling the upper classes too entitled, is a member of the upper classes turning up and acting so cartoonishly entitled that you don't quite believe what you're reading.

This bit is my favourite;

"And then you come along, looking for votes, telling working class people that posh people like me don’t deserve it, and that we must redress the balance. But it is your populist, envy-based, vote-hunting ideas which make our country crap, far more than me and my shit songs, and my plummy accent."

So, James, what you're saying is that people do deserve to have their entire lives determined by the social class they're born into? This is how it should be?

He said "wazzock" at one point, too.

Is this the worst thing anybody has ever said publicly since the end of the Cold War? Do posh people not fucking read what they're writing before putting it out in the world to end up on the internet? Did Labour pay James Blunt off to do this, as a way of sabotaging the upper classes?

The British disease. Anybody who has achieved or been born into a position of privilege will immediately become the victim of attempts to knock them down.

The people telling us this? The rich and privileged. We should be grateful to them and console ourselves with the pleasure of being able to bask in their reflected brilliance. Twats

chris bryant also went to private school and is oxford educated. We are blessed that such an individual has decided to patronise us.

Blunt and bryant can both go and fuck themselves.

and yet I'm able to applaud the self-recognition that Bryant has.

Posh people are not twats by default. Some are able to see what they are, and it's the others like Blunt who are the twats.

The ones that really bug me are the ones who through sometimes limited talent achieve a level of popularity/ celebrity and then attribute any level of criticism to envy. They don't always come from privileged backgrounds.

An example that always comes to mind is Elvis Costelllo. From (as I understand it) a middle class background I know. But he's repeatedly over years taken a swipe at this country for being envious and not properly respecting his achievements and the legacy he leaves behind him. Unlike America which is his true home where they appreciate him for his genius and his legend status (only slightly putting words in his mouth here).

I suppose, but bryant is an ex-god botherer and also was up to his neck in all that expenses claims business. He's a life member of my twat list.

having spoken to Blunt a couple of time I actually quite like him, he also made it clear that he's a regular visitor on this parish, he appeared to know about most of the thread topics and comments on here when he was booked for GuilFest, and even mentioned a few boarders - saying when he's on tour there's a lot of free time - and he finds himself on message boards. He wouldn't tell me what his forum name was tho.
:bye: James :ninja: - my guess is he's Russy ;)

I think you've all completely missed the point.

Quite clearly the biggest c**t in this, is Chris Bryant.

He's the one who bought a James fucking Blunt record...

he agrees with you on this, "more than me and my shit songs" - I told him that when I was in New Zealand his song was fucking everywhere - he said something like "poor bastards maybe I should write the whole nation a letter of apology" Edited by 5co77ie

James Blunt is self deprecating, but I rather think it's just a clumsy defence mechanism to cope with the derision he receives.

I suspect the reality is every time he reads about someone saying his music is dung, or that he comes across as a thoroughbred helmet, he cries himself to sleep in the foetal position.

So I'd just like to say James, as we know you're reading this, your music is dung and you come across as a thoroughbred helmet.

"Every step of the way, my background has been AGAINST me succeeding in the music business. And when I have managed to break through, I was STILL scoffed at for being too posh for the industry."

Only just seen the letter, I thought it was all over his comment on twitter, which I found fairly amusing :P

Really? I thought we'd got rid of me years ago. RT @ianbirrell: James Blunt is 'dominating' UK culture, according to Labour arts spokesman

Byrant has a point but surely he could have come up with a far better and more relevent example than Blunt? Just makes him seem like his commeting on music and his only ever brought music, when his been in the supermarket and saw something incredbily MOR on offer as he got to the checkout.

or maybe, journo's asking him to name names should have a better u8nderstanding of the issue, enough of an understanding to realise that it's not about pointing the finger at individuals?

This is a typical "look, a squirrel" thing from the media. Make a serious subject about something petty and so destroy the argument in those who weren't paying proper attention or are too daft to think for themselves.

Wealth is a human construct; privilege is a human construct. But if we all pretend it's the natural order of things the rich can run away with all the money. ;)

Maybe, but then without mentioning any names would it have got any press attention what so ever?

Hi James :) I'm not a fan of your music and have no opinion on whether you are a twat or a c**t but my friend liked you way back when and dragged me to see you at Glastonbury. You were bearable on a sunny drunken afternoon. My vote on your username is Neil. You have a light look of him Neil, just older. Pffft. /whoban.
