Yoghurt on a Stick

I like the ones with coloured wire coming out of their heads - they made me smile! I'd happily display them in my home as a pair, if only I had the space - sadly, I don't. It looks as if you spent a lot of time completing the keyboard one - I like it and I can see it appealing to other people too! The one with the bolts coming out of its head and the starey blue eyes is a bit creepy, though might appeal to those people who are into that sort of thing, I suppose.

Anyway, good luck with your enterprise! An ex-colleague of mine used to sell items through Amazon - I don't know if this is an avenue that you could use?

Thanks for the feedback PastCaring. I too have a very fond liking for the male head with the electrical wiring coming out of it's head. In fact, it's possibly my favourite - it's hard to really decide on a favourite though. I thought some people would find the one with the inner tube valves (not bolts) coming out of it and the eyes a bit creepy. I guess you are right in that this one will appeal to people more in to that sort of thing.

Thanks for the suggestion of Amazon, but I'm not sure that it's the right avenue to go down. I've never seen this type of stuff on there - mind you I haven't looked.

Thanks once again for taking the time to feedback.

Its the coloured wires one that first struck me but i really like the first one too. I think they work just fine as standalone pieces.

The first one was coated with iron filings first. Then I glued on rivets to the front face area. I hadn't thought about the glue I used and it 'ate' in to the polystyrene sub head. Instead of being a disaster this actually turned out asthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

PS - I bought a box of 20,000 of those rivets for something in the region of £15 off ebay. I have started to cover the upper torso of a mannequin with them. Which reminds me, I must press on with that soon.

Quite like the keyboard one actually and with bits of circuit board (abeit that to me, looks a tad unfinished.)

Like others said, though not really my thing. Heads like this, kind of creep me out a little (I'm the same whenever I spot these sort of weird body/head sculptures so no reflection on what you've done really!)

Thanks for the feedback Tom. I knew that the heads wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea. It's enlightening to know that they have the capacity to distrub. I suppose that I'm happy enough with that on one level because it means that there's some reaction to them rather than total indifference. On the other hand it was never my intention to give anyone the creeps, so sorry about that.

I'm actually really happy with the circuit board one. As said before, I think it looks better 'in the flesh' than in a photo. I've just remembered that I did do a fully circuit boarded head. I can't think where that is now. I'm getting the sinking feeling that I gave it away while pissed up again (several heads have gone this way).

Thanks once again for feeding back.

I'd like to see them with quirky little themes, or more ambiguity - I always liked the Sigmund freud poster

http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/What-s-On-a-Man-s-Mind-Sigmund-Freud-Posters_i4968679_.htm

I'm fascinated with visual illusions, so a sculpture that looked like one thing until you looked closer would do it for me.

I'd like ones with exposed brains and the brains representing obsessions, that type of thing.

ones that make you think.

Especially if they're really creepy looking.

I think the circuit board and the keyboard one might appeal to techies, I did think of a few people I used to know who were into their programming who would probably have liked them.

The electrical wires one - I'd have liked it having a punk or dreadlock feel, though that might have been a cliché.

I kept thinking they should represent labels like pisshead, metalhead etc., was that your inspiration?

If you want to market them, it might actually work to use clichés/stereotypes/common points of reference, so people would get them as presents for people they reminded them of.

Hello feral.

Thanks for the feedback. It was techie type people that I was appealing to with the ones you mentioned. I had a far superior keyboard one, but gave it to a major techie friend.

Your mention of brains reminded me that I had made another which kind of wanders in to that territory. I have no idea why I didn't include it in the above photos, but will add it on a further post in a bit.

I know of the ambiguity type drawings etc that you mention you like and have seen a number of them over the years. I have a vague recollection that there's a name for that 'deception' within a drawing or artwork, but wouldn't like to bet on it.

I think this could work well for you - I'm into my music and psychology, as you know, so I was looking for that type of vibe to them - if you can work out other themes as well as the techie appeal, you could crack this, I think :)

Thanks feral. It would be nice if I got to sell a few of the other heads. However, they are only a limited line in terms of the art that I create. I'm much more interested in the other works getting some sort of recognition. Which reminds me again - the piece of work that is my favourite is, for some, possibly very disturbing. As it might be up your street I'll take the chance / liberty of posting it on here later.

I've just realised that I forgot to answer you on my inspiration. In my earlier years I was always drawn to modern art / sculpture. Then one day I just thought 'why not do some yourself' - so I did. Anyway, here's the head I forgot;

oo I like that one, I'd be trying to work out what it meant, which would be a big selling point for the likes of me.

And the fact that there's something inside the head, that you only get a glimpse of from the top of the head.

That sort of art would intrigue me. Anything hidden that could be eluded to from the surface, that you could open up and discover.

a good selling point too - women, always trying to get inside a man's head :D
