Sorry to be a bit of a pedant, but that's a vocoder effect, not autotune, I think.

Autotune is what fat, ugly, unshaven men* writing and recording songs in dingy studios use to make bands like 1D sound in tune when they sing. Shit still, but in tune shit!

:)

Ben

*I have no evidence that this is true, but would like to think so, to substantiate my prejudices.

That's not a vocoder. Definately some sort of digital pitch correction/adjustment going on. Could be Auto Tune, could be Melodyne.

New song is lovely :D

Wonderful, just sublime, transcendent, when that breakdown finally comes, the melody first gently re-groups, then coalesces into a pool of sweet, fragrant frangipani honey.

Listened to 'Why Make Sense?' again and i have to say 'Started Right' is still my favourite on there.

'White Wine and Fried Chicken' and 'Easy to Get' are great also.

The album is great overall.

It is great, III

I'm still a sucker for the mega-hook that is Huarache Lights, and ADORE the closer, which was brilliant live in March. Roll on Friday night, WH!

Love the opening beats of Huarache Lights. In my head they'll open with that on the 26th and when it starts up I can imagine myself there....

I love the way Hot Chip have developed from album to album, got bigger, carved themselves a niche. They've consistently and without any fuss got a cracking back catalogue, a blinding live show, loyal fans, the fucking business.

Huarache Lights is a cracking single alright. One of their best moments.

I love it. Definitely for me the best single they've released

* sucks teeth *

When they eventually release a greatest hits album it'll be a good one, but at the minute for me they're a better singles band than an albums band.

I've never "loved" their albums. They are a good studio/production showcase but not something you'd sit and listen to. A few good tracks that were never released as singles though, (for me namely Hold On, Keep Quiet, and the absolutely wonderful 'No Fit State')

Having said that I don't think their singles do them justice as a live band either, and i think it would be hard to get into them as a band if you hadn't seen them live.

I'm dead excited about seeing them, and I think they are my main "must see". Even looking likely they will clash with foo fighters, there's no contest, I know where I'll be.

Spot on, Mardy. A great example of a band caring deeply about their art, and quietly building a fully-deserved reputation. This new record is an absolute triumph, and a great starting point for the casual/not yet fan, before delving into some of the crackers from the back catalogue too.

Whilst I have become somewhat of a big fan of late, I still would rarely 'put on a Hot Chip album', especially if I'm sitting. But all their albums on shuffle when you're doing stuff is a brilliant way to listen to the variety of sounds they have produced over the years.

The caveat to that is the new LP, which I frequently listen to in its entirety. There are no real weak tracks on there, it flows beautifully, is a well-crafted single entity, and ends on a belter - which always makes you want to listen all the way through to the money shot!

I'd agree with that mostly, and live, they know what to do, how to put together a good setlist and a show. Their love of Prince is also evident in most things they do, which is never a bad thing.

In Our Heads was the first album of theirs that i listened to in full long after it was released. fantastic album that. all of the rest i lost interest in after a while. doubt this new one will be getting listened to a year down the line, but i'm enjoying it at the moment. them headlining West Holts is gonna be utterly fantastic - i'm gutted i won't be there
